Does anyone have any experience shipping engines from Canada to US? Any idea of the cost? Any issues with the EPA or any idea about taxes?

I realize it is much cheaper to have it shipped to a location near the border then go get it in a truck and drive it across yourself- however that is not an option with this.

I've used Forward Air.... Crate it and have it delivered their site. Then ship it close to a location near you. Customs will access on total value.. So place a reasonable value and your good to go.
Good Luck

How much did it cost you- total including taxes?

it was awhile ago.. I think it was $400 from Ontario CA to LA..Cali.
Customs $50.00 for $1500 value of a used motor.

Sure beats driving across the country for the $

Where is it?
Looks like Forward air only ships from Toronto and Montreal
Big country that will affect cost.

Ah yes- good idea. If I am the lucky one to get the engine, that may work.

Also- how's the new job?

Do you have land at your new house? I can bring the arsenal over if so smile.gif

No problems from Canada to USA - the opposite way is a Bitch.

For Comparison Purposes, I have a 911 Engine being Crated and Sent to England = Total Cost $792

I use www.engineshipping.com and ship to and from worldwide without any issues. Shipped one to Dubai last month with no problem at all.

6.6 acres. I need to see if the neighbors care, but I would bet they dont.

Balljoints house is closer. Promise him penguin porn, the Japanese stuff not the US or Canadian stuff, and he will likely let you ship it to him and maybe even take it across the border since the smuggling of Jap penguin porn into Canada is a serious offense. Let Balljoint take the risk.

I'm 'prolly only 2 hours closer than Mark at the most and still 4 hours from Detroit. My GPS ankle doodad starts to blink if I get within 100 km of the border...

There is MDG, too. I think he has full range of Canada, unlike Dave. Dave got pinched for penguin porn. Sick phreak.

Update-
I have been working with www.engineshipping.com which has been quite helpful. The price from doorstep to doorstep is just under $500. I have been using a customs broker named near north customs and all seems to be going smooth there also. I think the customs fees, taxes and such were around $200. I also had to fill out an EPA form with the engine info and since it was over a certain age (21 years?) it is exempt from the epa regs.

All has been smooth HOWEVER the simple task of send a check to Canada has been quite difficult. I sent it last Tuesday via fedex. It was supposed to have arrived the next day however it was seized by Canadian customs and then turned over to the CSIS (canadia fbi). Apparently, there is a lot of fraud going on in Montreal so they want to make sure that all checks being sent there are legit- the problem was that the ONE guy who takes care of this was on vacation so it sat on a desk for a week!!! It was eventually released then got lost but it eventually did get there- so hopefully smooth sailing from here.

No, I purchased it from a guy in the classified section. I think the title of the ad was 2.2l engine for sale or something like that.
