I didn't know Israel was making 914 parts. I didn't even know they had any 914's there. Looks like cool stuff! wonder what the shipping cost is?

There has been at least one member from israel on world. Israel would be a great place to own a 914. The cars don't rust. I saw a ton of old vw buses when I was there being used as delivery vehicles.

interesting, their main business is drone and airplane parts , wonder what lead them down the 914 path, maybe a company owner isa 914 guy? parts look well done -
they do commision work. so maybe a group buy of 914 parts would be considered (im sure expensive and probably cost prohibitive ie. like a CF targa!! top!!) idea.gif

Website says flat fee of $25 for shipping to US or EU.

Is the stock center console that heavy?

For racing, how much lighter is a carbon fiber center console over chucking your stock console out of the the car entirely?

I would love carbon front and rear hoods, door skins would also be on my list. Carbon top, most likely not unless I could epoxy it to the A-pilar, and roof. The epoxy joint would be the week spot on that one.

What are we talking $$$$ wise, need to save some coin for a GB

Here is what I got back from the carbon fiber guys. Although I don't know what the shipping would be from getty design this seems expensive. Does anyone know exactly what Getty supplies in comparison?

Anyone remember the RONCO Pocket Fisherman?

International shipping has become ridicoulus. Buyer paid $77+ to ship green dot jack to England. Had conversation with left coaster that paid around $700 for shipping a set of minilites across the ocean....

Me personally, I would like to see in carbon fibre:
1) a-pillars. Both with and without guage pods
2) Trim peice between A-pillars that sun visors mount thru
3) B-pillar cover for coat hook cover
4) front roll bar pad - good ones hard to find, make .050 undersized. Cover ot au-natural...

Cool/possibly un-necessary....
1) headlight motor mechanism guard/cover, left and right
2) group 42 battery cover as stock
3) relay box cover

Under the always wondered category....
Battery tray. Riv-nut in place, built in port for drain. Stong enough for real world application?
Rocker Panels - as strong as stock steal ones.


Hard part is, is semi-brake even cost wise? Knew someone in the Leary 90s that had a company make "protectors " for the front part of chrome sidepipes for early corvettes out of acrylic.. Sold the for $200 a pair. Back then, setup cost to install in thermoformers ran $250, machine/labor time ran $120 an hour and material was about $6 a part. 5 hour minimum run time....

Kind of sounds like one of Mikeys group buys. Spend $5-6K on tooling and production and with any luck, make a grand or two in the process.

Does anyone have a Getty hood that can speak to the quality. Somewhere I thought I read that they don't do class A surfaces, just for race cars.

If you are looking for CF "BLING", you are going to want a nice UV protective clear coat. CF will turn yellowish with sun exposure.

I saw a Getty rear lid at parts heaven. It was not class A but it was used, scraped and $400. It needed too much work to look nice for me. But I would run a new one and not worry about gloss.

10 or so years ago, there was a group buy or front and rear lids with Getty. IIRC, the cost was about $1200 plus shipping for the pair.

Anyone have a pair? How are they holding up?

What did Joe use on the RS. Seems like that is one of the newest builds I know that used CF parts.

My sister lives in Jerusalem and she said she has seen a 914 in Israel. I had mine since I was a teen so she knows what they look like.

Yes, at one point there used to be a few more on the road back in the 80’s and early 90’s. Today no one in the local classic car scene that I talked to is aware of any other road-legal 914. The other fellow’s last post was from Aug 06. I sincerely hope he was able to restore his, but with no local parts sources and outrageous customs/import taxes on auto parts, not to mention the stringent safety restrictions imposed on older cars, it makes it almost impossible and cost prohibit to restore a 914 to road worthiness stage after a major collision. I know there are 1-2 non-drivable examples parked elsewhere in the country. Maybe your sister came across one of those or perhaps saw me driving mine (Israel is a very tiny country). Anyway, I wish there were more 914 owners in Israel, that way we could establish a local club. People still prefer to import 911’s, as well as 924/944 and 928’s. The 914 remains extremely rare here, most people still confuse it for a classic Italian or a kit car.

This is a glass lid with the balsa reinforcement or as it's called the GT Replica lid. The fit is perfect front and rear. Oh, it's Getty...

Here is a Getty Carbon lid painted. Very high quality. No complaints from me, good stuff. Purchased and painted 10 years ago.

I didn't sink it, the container failed off the ship along with 26 others due to severe wheather. Anyway, the insurance paid in full and was able to import another Mustang into the country.

Speaking of Carbon or Fiberglass hoods. I have heard it is recommended using hood pin locks to secure the hood down. I would love to loose the weight, but I don't want hood pins, I see a couple beautiful 914s in this thread that have composite hoods with no pins. Any concerns or issues?

Mine will have pins but the Getty product is accurate down to having the mount for the original hardware. So, no concern on my part...

For those of you interested in carbon fiber hoods, please note that the price quote shown on page 1 of this thread is for a ready-to-bolt CF hood with a grade-A surface quality. This means a UV-protected, clear-coated scratch resistant high-gloss naked CF finish on par to what you would find on today’s $200K+ sports cars. A lower cost alternative would be a grade-B surface (I think this is what Getty provides but I’m not 100% sure), which means just a bare CF panel requiring a proficient body & paint shop to prep, prime, paint and clear-coat.

If anyone is interested on a grade-B CF hood, I’ll be happy to provide a quote.

Group buys are always welcome.

BTW, no need for hood pins in this case.

I suspect the Getty hoods are Grade-A as most of them I've seen are naked CF and beautiful. Randal just painted and clear coated his leaving a naked number circle in CF. I'm sure yours are fine too...

What about a class-A naked CF roof? The 914 looks right with the black roof so a CF one would fit in but be a really nice custom piece. And it would be losing weight where you would want to ...not that the FG roof weighs that much.

My point was that there is a more economical approach compared to what I quoted previously for those that don't need the naked CF look because they're thinking of painting their hoods anyway. I'm just offering a possible alternative. I'm sure the Getty hood is a fine product but no one has been able to provide any technical specs (i.e.: UV-protection, Type of CF, CF to resin ratio, CF to GF ratio if any, weight, etc.). My advice for anyone thinking of spending $$$ on a critical composite part is to conduct a more detailed apple-to-apple comparison first in order to understand what you're really getting. No 2 composite parts from 2 different manufacturers are ever the same. My product's specs are and will always be available for anyone to review.

I think that someone in Germany already attempted to make CF roof tops; I'll look for that thread. In my case, the cost of engineering and producing such product would be much higher to what I think potential customers would be willing to pay. The roof top design is significantly more complex than say a hood. The latching mechanism would need to be adapted to work on a much lighter part and would have to undergo serious tests in order to ensure safety and proper sealing. Keeping noise and vibration within tolerable levels at high speeds would also be a challenge. This would be a great one-off project if cost is not the primary concern.
