...that's the most official name I've heard for this. It's a mouthful to search on. No one makes one as far as I can find, but Tangerine makes some sort of kit. Not sure if it's a reinforcing kit or a replacement, or whether it works with stock geometry.

I think I'll have to rehabilitate this guy somehow...

Was thinking of posting a WTB ad in the classifieds, but would anyone be cutting up a car if this area weren't pretty gone?

.... or you could just go to RD & get a nice new repro one with fresh & rust free steel!!?? confused24.gif

That would be great if they made that part. Maybe one day, not today.

Um, because Tom as the OP stated, that part isnt yet available from anyone including RD unless they've recently made a repop available?

I'm thinking there's a couple of left coast guys parting out some collision cars that might have what you need....give it a try....

Timing is everything. Both the consoles from the 72 I just cut up were good.
Both are now gone. That said:

I'm about to install the Tangerine kit in my LS build so I'll be removing both of mine. You're welcome to them/it for the cost of shipping from 94952.

I'll PM you...

Chris

PS: the Tangerine kit raises the pick up location by 2 or 3 inches, depending you which kit you get. I'm going with the 2". In any case, you'd be on the hook to do both sides.

Chris also has a kit/parts to rehab the area that accepts the 3 bolts. That might be what Mbesto was referring to.

I've always called that the outer suspension console. And yours does look pretty nasty.

But not TOO much worse than mine, which I think I was able to repair pretty effectively after blasting. I don't have any good pics of the repair, but the good news is the repair doesn't necessarily have to be particularly beautiful in cosmetic terms as long as it's structurally sound.

Anyway, maybe get it blasted and then assess if it can be repaired? I cut out the metal with the hole as shown and used my "mad" welding skills.... biggrin.gif ... to put in some solid metals patches. There are a couple of threads here (ScottyB's comes to mind) of good console repairs.

I can't seem to find it, but I swear there was a build thread where somebody made one... rather recently too.

That's what I call it.

I'm a couple weeks out on cutting up the parts car here at home. The only thing spoken for is the back wall/dash for Taylor Whitesell's project.

Mine was shot too. I placed a WTB ad in the classifieds and found a nice one in a week for a reasonable price.

Here's Scotty's example: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...mp;#entry694083

It's not very detailed, but the point is that you CAN repair those things even if they are as far gone as that one if you're not looking for concourse quality.

I now remember that before I repaired mine I had actually put a WTB and purchased one here. When it arrived, it was probably not in bad shape, but it was still welded to the sheet metal that's part of the inner wheelhouse and still had pieces of the suspension tie attached. Drilling the welds out and cutting off the suspension ties is such a PITA that I found it easier and quicker to repair mine.

We've done outer console repairs two ways: Patch what's there, or replace with custom fabbed parts.
Here are some pictures of both methods:

The lower section was pretty much missing but the bolt tubes and upper structure were still sound, and there were prior repairs in the surrounding area, so we patched.

IIRC, on this car the rot extended higher, and the car was more original still, so a more extensive repair was warranted.
Doesn't look too bad from below

Here's how it looked after cutting away the damage

This is a part we are working on currently. I have the tooling made, I just need to try the dies. Next couple months I should have a part.

Keep in touch with me if you're not in a huge rush.
