Unless this is an early 73 MY 2L were they had to drill the rear panel for the 2.0 badge (as mine has) - this could be a conversion 2.0 - as you can see the 2.0 badge is offset slightly lower than the 914 badge.

Lesson is - always check that a 2.0 is a real 2.0 .... or LE or -6 .... with a COA, original window sticker, dealer new sale invoice or even just calling PCNA's COA dept. to get them to confirm verbally - BEFORE YOU BUY!

There are just too many conversions out there, that even the sellers may not know that they're not an original 2L.

Unfortunately that's pretty typical for CL. Most people have no idea how to sell anything, let alone a car.

The seller had more info and pictures on the 914world facebook group page. There's some sort of issue with the mileage on the title or something about the odometer being "exempt".

In South Carolina any car over a 10 years old pretty much automatically gets a "mileage exempt" status. That's happened to a bunch of my cars.

Let's be honest, many of these older cars are touted as low original mileage when there is not a shred of evidence to support those claims. All these cars are so old they may have had speedometer swaps, disconnects, etc.

At this point, you should be buying based on condition...not mileage (documented or not).

Generally, I agree Bill but as you also know there are still some very nice and well documented cars out there where the mileage and condition are truly accurate, documented and can be trusted. I've been surprised how often a one or two owner car with superb documentation still does comes up. Many times they are cars that have not even been known within the collector community but surface when the owner finally decides to or needs sell.

The owner here. Anyone that contacted me got 6 videos and 70 pictures!! I have documents that go back to 1973 but no window sticker. I talked to the PO, also a lawyer, for over an hour and I'm the second owner. It had a respray so I'm not sure about the 2.0 badge placement . If it's not an original 2.0 I will refund total purchase price including shipping and I'll come get the car. I haven't gotten the engine serial number as of yet but I'm doing a video of the undercarriage today. If that 356 wasn't coming tomorrow I'd keep the car even though I have a 75 2.0! Finally all 7 of my Porsches and 72 VW bus and 3 micro cars are mileage exempt in Wisconsin ! I posted the Florida mileage document I received when I bought the car 7 years ago showing 55k. It now has 65k. With 14 cars I didn't have the chance to do an additional 110k over the last 7 years!

I wouldn't be concerned about the placement of the 2.0 badge, here is my original '74 and the 2.0 badge is slightly above the 914 badge.

The 2.0 badge on my late '73 is also a touch higher than the 914 badge. I wouldn't sweat that much.
