I dont know why I still have this car..... ?

here is an honest little car that spent most of its time in the Washington & California climate. Therefore
absolutely no rust that I could find.
The car was very well maintained by its previous owners and is in excellent condition as we speak.
there has add a partial respray some time ago and the paint still shines and present very well. Altough there is a few
rock chips in the front but nothing dramatic.
The color is original Bahia red .
The engine is a 2 liter period correct with a desirable GA series and retained its original D Jetronic fuel injection.
The engine pulls very strong and do not smoke or burn any oil.
The transmission is also the desirable side shift 5 speed and shifts very well throughout all gears.
Interior is flawless , nice carpets, nice dash , nice seat, no tears, all gauges work , the only thing not original is the radio
but I have an original unit I can throw into the deal.
Targa top is in excellent condition so is all the glass and trims.
Doors shut with the nice ``clunk`` that we like . And all gaps line up nicely.
Calipers have been refurbished, heat exchangers and muffler are like new, both chromed rear and front bumpers do not show
a trace of pitting or dents

Only thing not working is the windshield washer mechanism which uses the pressure from the spare front tire. ( I think there is
probably an air leak ( to be investigated)

Things done since my ownership ;
5 lugs wheel conversion & 911 front suspension . ( see new pictures at the bottom )
New front ball joints,
New front Bilstein strut inserts,
New rear rotors & hubs,
5 lugs 6 x 15 Fuchs wheels,
5 new tires barely used
new fuel injectors,
new rear shocks yellow bilsteins with 140 lbs springs wich make the car handle like a champ on twisty roads.
added center console gauges ( voltmeter and oil temp ) I also have a working clock but not installed.
New battery,
Momo protopipo steering wheel ( but I kept the original if you want to replaced )
Added exterior mirror on the passenger side to have that sporty look and a more secure side vision .
And finally a 914-6 chrome exhaust tip .

So here you have it . Asking $ 19000 USD . lots of pictures available...!

here is a link to the original for sale thread from when I bought the car ,,,,,,,, lots of positive comments

Amazing that no one bought this car when you posted it for sale before and even after your upgrades. 19,000 is a very fair price even without the original engine. What is the process for buying a car in Canada and bringing into the USA ?
Are there additional fees that must be paid ???

Thanks, I hope it goes to a good home.

Probably someone will have to pay brokerage fees , and transportation depending on location of the buyer.

thanks

Is it as simple as towing a trailer across the boarder, buying the car and trailering it back or do you get held up in customs and pay them tax's ???

Just wanting to know how the system works, I have seen some good deals on your side.

The car is more than 25 years old so, not subject to emission control. But This is a USA car already and has the compliance certificate on it with vin number. So not an issue. I have a clean title for the car with no liens. And I will supply a bill of sale .
I Know you can broker the carf your self if you drive it across the border, This will save you some fees but you will need to fill some paper work at the border and they will inspect the car. Again pretty simple. cheers

I brought a MGA back from Ontario (to Mi. ) last year, with no drama, and a small customs fee. With a older collector car it's easy. Nice car by the way!

Does anyone know this car and seen it in person? I like he photos and the tasteful modifications but before I make the journey to Canada I'd like to hear from my fellow 914ers.

Pm the owner, believe it came out of Calif then sold to current owner. Been on and off The market the past year. My advise, buy the car, lots of people get into the 914 world on the cheap then spend more then what this seller is asking.

Bump to the top....

Have you thought of putting it on Bring a Trailer auction? Cars seem to bring in good prices there. Might be worth the fee.

agree.gif there are no 914s on there now and your car is much nicer than the recent offerings... Good Luck!

Seriously, this is a really nice car with all of the right upgrades. I don't understand why it hasn't sold yet.

I have had good experiences selling and buying on BAT and I think this car would do really well there.
drifter914
This is a beautiful car & I was considering it last year. I think for $19K people are holding on for a matching #'s car. Although, as time goes by, they seem to be heading into the $20 - $25 K range. Also there is the Canada factor.
I bet this car would sell quickly at $16,000.
E-Bay with a reserve?
roblav1
I'd take it at $16K if he brought it over the border!

BAT will not let me set my own reserve on the car,,, they suggest a ridiculously low reserve.. wich I will not go for..!
Mblizzard
Great looking car! Like the others have mentioned the Canada issues and possibly being at the upper end of the price scale are working against the sale. But from looking at the car and the mods it all seems very nice. Good luck with the sale. icon_bump.gif
drifter914
Also confusing is the link to the previous sellers ad where it states it's a '73 & "originally a 1.8 liter".
Not trying to detract here, but the price line is obviously the roadblock on this combination for the seller to attract a buyer.
The car itself is certainly smile.gif a winner in so many ways & someone who was really motivated to buy it wouldn't let that border get in the way. Fly up / drive 'er home !
I think, in this case, it's price that's the hold up. smile.gif

Same here (if positive ppi) and I would have it shipped this way but price seems to be firm sad.gif

Winter is coming on and lots of cars will be put away for the season.
It hurts you that you at the high end of your cars valve and that you are out of the USA and that the car is not with its original Eng. At these higher numbers people are or can be very picky. There have been some good-looking cars up for sale and as more cars are restored it will make it harder to get the higher price.

So if I would like to see a PPI, how does that work in Canada? Is there a company that I can hire to visit the car or would the seller need to bring his car to a dealership?

I considered this car last year. I spoke to the owner and also to a noted air cooled tech who was familiar with the car and I can report that by all accounts it is an excellent car and priced fairly as is.. Also, I have purchased cars in Canada before and it is simple and straightforward for anything over 25 years old. Not sure about California, but easy to bring to USA and register in my home state of WA anyway. The border dealings took all of 15 minutes. Also, anyone with interest should have no problem arranging a PPI in the area.

Going to double down on my original quote. $ 19,000 is a great price. One could not even get close to that if they tried to restore a 5k and up 914. Cars been 4-sale now going on two years, please someone overseas buy this car.

19000 usd car
380 usd 2% insurance seafreight
2900 usd shippingcost to Rotterdam
1336 usd 6 % importtax over the above
660 usd file, administration etc
250 usd landtransport local

24.526 usd local

also add, a few bits and pieces to get the car registered

Did the math (plenty times as I like the look of this car very very much) but for me (this is personal ofcourse) this is over budget for a non original 2.0 usa spec car (sorry but they are worth less here compared to an original euro spec car....).

Hi Francois,

90 % are usa imports in the lower price range (read : a lot of work needed). The good ones are for sale at astonishing prices (mostly cardealers who think they can set high price as the car has a Porsche badge)
Ofcourse I keep monitoring here in Europe as well.

Checked on a Euro spec car last week which was nearly perfect (rebuilt engine, gearbox, electrics, clutch, new floorpan and longs etc) but then I noticed this ....

GRRRRR... thinks something went wrong replacing the longs.

Once again, love your car very much and if I were closer and didn't have the additional cost I would jump right in. To make it worth for me I need (slightly) lower purchaseprice (and most probably a car not as good as yours....) keeping some extra cash aside for unexpected issues...

I'm trying to but have to ask you to stop telling the owner how great the price is. This doesn't make the negotiation process any easier. smile.gif

I'm from the Netherlands and in the same boat as Dax. The base price of this car is at the higher end, but there's a lot of additional costs involved before the car is actually here.

Anyway, the owner has sent me more detailed photo's of the risk spots in car and I'm convinced this car is in a very nice condition. If only the price was a bit lower...

BTW, I'm new here but found tons of valuable information on this site. Awesome!

Your right, it's not a great price........it's a really great price, and don't forget the owner converted to 5 lug. stirthepot.gif stirthepot.gif

There is similar situation on BAT now. Originally 1.8 replaced with a 2.0. Not exactly the same situation, but similar and might be a good reference point.
cal44
I've been patiently waiting for logic to be written. I read, "it's to much money", it isn't a real 2.0 but a 1.8, it's in Canada, it isn't in the U.S, the border....on and on.

When someone puts a 3.2 Carrera engine in a true 914/6 I read comments like it is the greatest thing since electricity. Someone installs a 6 in a regular 914 oh' the holy grail.................

On this car, it isn't the price (well maybe a little), it looks like a little peach of a car. It's the location in the middle of bum....f......no where. There is the problem. That and it is 3000 miles from me in SoCal. I checked into enclosed shipping, $2500.00 U.S.
Cairo94507
This is a terrific car - said it before will say it again. But, if someone is looking for numbers matching, they need to be aware this is not that car. Great car, but not that car.

I can speak to the criticism one gets when putting a 3.2, or really any other engine, in a real Six. I get messages all of the time about my decision to do that, most recently on Monday.... So, that's just the nature of the beast. Will it deter me? No way. beerchug.gif
mepstein
Numbers matching is like detailing the transmission. Its a nice thought for a moment but has nothing to do with driving the car. Don't let the weenie factor talk you out of buying a nice car.
If this was my car, I'd probably raise the price $10k to move it away from the penny pinchers and into a range where the people looking have more money to spend.
I'd also have some pics done by a pro. They know how to make a car look like a million bucks.
cal44
A 3.2 is in my opinion one of Porsche's best. Installing a 3.2 is a grand idea. If you have the original engine then save it of course.

Getting back to this fellows car, what's the saying?. "pay now pay later"
