Melba (Toast) has some issues with her car, and unfortunately with Ron's passing (SLITS), she no longer has a good mechanic to help her out.

Wondering if there's some World members in the Las Vegas area that could lend her a hand making some minor repairs to her '73 914?
Tom_T
Mark,

If there isn't a member or old school aircooled Porsche Independent that comes up, then there is Gaudin Porsche's "Classic Center" - which is one of the handful of Classic Centers around the country, & they should have someone for aircooleds there, I would think. Of course, it would be Porsche prices though.

As long as she's worked there, I'm surprised they didn't put a v8 in it with spare parts.
Vegas racer lives there. Do we know what's wrong with it?
euro911
unsure.gif ... I was just trying to see if there was anyone closer to where lives that could lend her a hand.

I accidentally deleted the message she sent me, but I think the issue was electrical in nature. Her car has been sitting idle for about three years now, so it may need attention elsewhere as well. She really didn't go into a lot of detail confused24.gif

I may be passing through Vegas mid-day Thursday for a couple hours...

Do you have her phone #?

She should be at work but we can put it on jack stands for her lol-2.gif
Kansas 914
Too bad she can't get it to Red Rocks Classic in September. Some of the best 914 minds in the country will be gathered in one spot.

Maybe the next event needs to be in Las Vegas?

I've got a better idea or so I think. biggrin.gif Let's form a Rescue Party like we did a while back for the other lady whose brother had passed. Forgot her name now. Since I thought of it I should be the first to volunteer. I'll need to wait until Vegas temps are reasonable. If she is still living in the same place there is room to toss a few sleeping bags. We can set a date if any locals there can advise me as to when Vegas drops back into the 80's. smile.gif Ron bailed my ass out of a few jams. I can damned sure make time for Melba's dilemma. I'll need a few other hands to join me. I can take one person with me as well. Who's up for the challenge? beerchug.gif
'73-914kid
Hmm... once temp fall a bit, I might go for that Kent. 914s can hold plenty of parts and tools...
76-914
Thank you, Ethan. I'll probably take my truck so I can can load up with tools and parts. No sense working in 100F+. Everything takes 3 times as much effort. beerchug.gif

I can meet you there if the timing works

Trying to pull a car out of Henderson....I may not go up and just have it shipped. I would do the rescue party thing.

I spoke with her about an hour ago ... something to do with the ignition switch and the starter wiring off the top of her head.

Again, with it sitting for an extended period of time, there's probably a few other issues that could have developed. '73 2.0L with F.I.

I asked her to make a list of all the known issues ...

I'm going through some of the same issues, she'll be facing ... mine has been sitting idle for 2.5 years dry.gif
Chris914n6
Here is what I know.

It's been sitting for 3 years... needs tank drained and likely a fuel pump.
Been told the 2.0FI is tired & down on power... could use a rebuild.
Kinda recall something electrical under the dash.
Otherwise car is complete. Ran when parked laugh.gif

Won't be 80s til Halloween. Last I saw the garage had room to work, it's not too bad in the shade. I managed to survive the summer beer3.gif

Carl's Place is a great independent repair shop in Las Vegas. Tony is the owner, and the last time I was there April 2015, Vegasracer's black beauty was up on the lift, plus two other 914s. Tony also is the man in charge of Guidin Porsche's restoration center.
I didn't see Toast at Renegade at that time...

If that's the big hangup then I'll try to make a date some weekend soon. I happen to have a lot of recent ignition switch experience laugh.gif

I'd like to see the car get to RRC. And back.
JRust
She needs a nice little 2.5 suby motor in it

Good man, Chris. pray.gif Let us know what, when and how. If she needs a fuel pump, I've a spare. God knows Ron gave me more than a few freebies. In fact, post up whatever she needs for that car. I'm not the only one that owes Ron a favor. This is a good opportunity to play it forward. beerchug.gif Kent

(What Would SLITS Do?)
Chris914n6
First date was productive biggrin.gif

1) put air in the tires and moved it into the shade.

2) diagnosed a bad wire connection to the starter solenoid. now cranks.

3) got the fuel pump removed. shorted out internally. ordering a new one from RH (job benefit)

3) pushed the car back to it's resting position beerchug.gif

Next date hopefully there will be sparks piratenanner.gif

Now on to the pictures & wish list aktion035.gif

I have a good steering wheel hub. Just tell me where to send it and i'll have it out asap. Mark

Chris, I recently purchased a good 2-port pump from Chappy ... if that will do the trick, I can pop it in the mail tomorrow

Awesomeness!
Easiest is probably send it to Renegade c/o Toast. I'd have to look up her address... it's the house within biking distance with the yellow 914 in front laugh.gif

Chris,

Well done!

Does Toast's car need the door stay AND the bracket or just the stay?

914forme
Looks like she needs a driver side Euro Turn signal lense also.

Oh and Vegas can get down right cold if you have some shade and a evaporator or mister system. Froze my butt off at a fiends place getting out of the pool, 113 degrees, and I am shivering,

If I can help let me know. work and my back are restricting my travel right now but I have parts. Drop me a pm. I haven't been active lately. No time.

I go away for a few weeks and look what happens. biggrin.gif

Wow guys........I don't know what to say! pray.gif Thank you all so very much! grouphug.gif I've been sad seeing my 914 everyday just deteriorating out here in the Vegas heat. sad.gif

THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN CHRIS!! You have been truely a great person and a great help! smilie_pokal.gif

I do need a door stop and tires. Those are technicalities and can get those when funds are available.

The fuel pump that went out was part# Bosh 9580810026. 927 (circled) 745.
I know there are a few different types. I had a different fuel pump on the shelf but a port on one end is too big and it is a much bigger pump.

Thank you guys again! SLITS is smiling at ya....for a change. happy11.gif

Melba, isn't that my old engine that you're running? If it is, it's a 74 2.0 if it makes any difference. smile.gif

So hopefully today will be the day that my 914 gets fired up after resting for 3 years. piratenanner.gif

Sorry, I couldn't help Toasty. We were in town for about 13 hours. Moved him in to his apartment, called NV Energy. Dinner at a fancy tapas place next to the hotel. Slept 7 hours and back to Reno. I saw your post on FB to me and I actually said to Nicho that if her car is an early model we should go put her fuel pump in because it's fairly easy. He gave me stink eye and said, "Dad! Tonight and tomorrow are the last days I get to see my girlfriend for months! Take me home please..." sad.gif
