I am interested in updating my 1971. 1.7. Djet engine.I would like to purchase a running,driving sorted engine that someone is replacing and going for more Horsepower. I don't want to rebuild after puchase.Also if someone built something and then went a different direction I would be interested in looking into that.I am trying to repower as cheaply as possible.Carbs and regular induction fine too.just would want all the parts and pieces.Thanks for the help.Bobco

Having just done this pursuing more power, you may want to take a look at my http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?s=&...t&p=2566952 as it presents a few of the options I found during my search. To be clear, I have no affiliation with any of these and cant recommend one over the other.

With that said, I do happen t to have running 2056 with big valve heads that I replaced with the end product of the search. But while it runs well I think it needs some work likely replacement of the stock cam to make it a good running engine.

Any change you consider should include going to the 2056 or 1911 at the minimum and must include replacement of the stock cam if you plan to use carbs or aftermarket FI.

Buying a used engine can be hit or miss. Spend the extra money and get a guaranteed engine from a reputable builder.

I've worked two deals on used motors for customers. One was straight forward and smooth. I did a re-seal and it's been clean and dry for over 10 years. A year ago I had a customer with a bad engine, and put an ad on this forum. Seller was probably mostly honest, but it was a marginal build purchased at a premium, and it's been a nightmare, with an unresponsive seller.

I am leary of buying used.It's a poke and hope.

I have a fresh motor... stock 2.0, with a raby FI cam... all stock DJet components.. never had oil in it (yet)

it took 5 years to have built.
a pro shop did it locally and I've had 6-8 motors built by the same shop

problem is... I have about 8grand into it
so although I'm not using it... I haven't put it up for sale as I have more into it than its worth and didn't want to take a loss
(figured I'd want it someday and it would cost more then)

I ended up buying a used 2.0 while it was being built... and see no need to swap motors since the used motor is running well

[size=7]I have a 2.0 with webers, SS heat exchangers, that is being taken out and am putting in a 2.2s engine. Solid engine and runs great. Drive it every weekend. Engine is located in the SF area.
