Cost $370k to build....makes me feel a lot better about the cost of my build.

You get the drift...
Would be fun to take this one around block.
I'd like to experience the acceleration this car supposedly is capable of.

We build $200K+ cars at the shop. Not 2x more fun than a $100K car but the parts really do add up quickly. One of our customers told me today he has 37 cars. Unlike me, even a $200K car is probably a smaller percentage of his net worth than the 2007 used Honda CRV I bought for my son. I do try to drive the shop cars any chance I get. They are made to drive. Trying to get in the 962 but thats a long shot.
The neat thing is I can do a 914 with a 300+hp 993 motor for a lot less. Won't be the same car but I'll be satisfied.

A quarter million. Let me rephrase that...A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS! I'm gob smacked. That an additional $130k has been flushed down the crapper is beyond words. All post tax $ is the icing on the cake. The 666 5th Ave of 914s.

I'm just speculating here but a lot of the 'lost" $130K is labor and I bet the shop bills at $125-150/hr. But the owner didn't actually pay his employees what he bills customers. Granted, he might have lost potential profit since his car was getting work done and not a customer. Similar idea with hard part cost. Engine might have cost the owner $35K in parts, $15K in labor but the shop would charge a customer $75K. So the math may be a little fuzzy.
Remember, people pay a quarter million dollars for paint on canvas, shaped pieces of clay and fermented grape juice in a bottle, so if you define the car as art, It might be downright reasonable.

Very pretty car, but with all the modifications, who cares if it’s an original -6? I think a lot of folks have done conversions that are also very nice, fun cars that are nowhere near these numbers. Many of us wrench on our toys as a hobby, so the labor is not an issue as it’s relaxation for us. I did mine as a fun project and not with the idea of making money from it. Much, much cheaper than spending money on a psychologist’s couch and the time spent with friends in the garage are better than sitting in some bar having drinks. Beer tastes best as refreshment in your garage.

Got to aim high.
This is advertising for the shop to a degree, if sold too cheap what would his customers think about paying such high prices for their custom built 911s or other Porsche race cars?
There is no reason a '70 911 built more or less the same exact way should be worth "that" much more and there are about half a dozen shops building early $200K+ 911s and they have long waiting periods.
I think it'll sell in $150K to $185K range. As long as it is driven and not put away for nobody to see it again, that would be shame.

For some odd reason I bought a copy of Superyachet World over the weekend, heck I cannot even afford to waste $300 on a plastic kayak yet I was drawn to spend $9 on this magazine. The amount of money on these things is mind boggling. Winning the Megamillion lotto still wouldn't give one enough money to buy and maintain most of the ships in this thing.
So yes there are people with money that the normal person cannot understand or come to grips with.
Wonder what modification "Orange Crush" is "missing" to make the people with Singer type of budgets want this car?
Does it need better marketing to let prospective buyers know how rare or special it is?
Is it special enough or is it too close to your dare I say standard cookie cutter 914 GT recipe? No CF roof or CF fenders or a 500hp 4-valve air cooled motor like the what is supposed to be being built for some new Singer builds.

End of the day its a "custom car" built to someone elses taste ,that in it's self creates a limited market....the selling price is another down factor and that go's without saying.
I'am not fussed on it I have seen cars owned by members on here I like better bet they never cost that much

I've got to agree as well. This is an unbelievably well-done car - I've seen it up-close in-person - but the build cost as well as asking price sound awfully high. For sure it is a worthy marketing showpiece for the shop and also must be a hoot to drive.

Would have rather seen a 100 Liter tank installed to get me endurance range. But when you spend over 100 hours on the bumpers maybe the 100 L tank and respective work required is to much trouble, so you add a small 9L to the capacity of your car.
Total capacity in my GT would be approximately 61 Liters of fuel. Oh, the last 9L I have to pull over and fill the tank with to get back to the pits.

To me it's a very expensive cookie cutter. Sure the car is nice, but it's pretty tame. Lots of cool little touches, but nothing that really makes you go wow like the Singer engine, etc. For a heavily modifed car at this pricepoint I would expect more.

I was present for a large part of the build and can tell you the stated expenses are no exaggeration. The engine and transmission are amazing because Kelly-Moss has exceptional engine builders. There really was no stated budget on this build and almost every part is new. So yes it was very expensive
