Just got shipping notice that my heads are on the way. pray.gif They will be here Friday. Should have some pictures for the weekend.

I think mine are next up. Let me know how they look when you get them. Starting to get excited but still lots of work to do before the 914 hits the pavement.

Congrats....I came pretty close to ordering a set , however the $ added up quickly since I have a 1.8 which I figured the cylinders would be too small so I'd have to invest (buy) 2.0 P/Cs and then buy a 2.0 crank w/rods.

Nick got his 1st. I just noticed there is not any studs in the head. Going to have to find new ones for the exhaust, intake and rockers. Going to have to check out Bel-Metric.

Stock 2.0 valve size 42x36

Mark - Len included a stud kit and a block off for venting or a vent tube if you want to go that route.

The 1.8 cylinders and the 2.0 cylinders have the same OD. The ID is only 1mm different, too. You could have used them, though I don't know how different the combustion chamber sizes are, which could have a huge effect on the compression ratio. And you'd have to deal with the intake and engine tin and such.

Per the factory spec book:
1.7 heads have 51.1cc to 52.6cc combustion chambers.
1.8 heads have 52cc to 53.5cc combustion chambers.
2.0 heads have 58.7cc to 60.2cc combustion chambers.

So with a stock 1.8 bottom end and stock 2.0 heads, the compression would drop significantly.

I started with a 1.8 and just upped the P/C to 96mm IIRC, kept the 66mm crank and 1.8 rods.... 1911cc with 2.0 heads. Or in my case the valves are 2.0 size. I like mine. Saved me alittle $.

I'm very pleased that everyone in the GB went with the ceramic coating. There is still much that's unknown about these Chinese castings, and with what we know about the more sturdy AMC castings and the benefits of ceramic in protecting them I feel it was imperative with the AAP's.

One thing to keep in mind about the ceramic coating, it's extremely chemical and heat resistant, but it is not at all abrasion resistant. It scratches and scuffs very easily, so be careful with sharp objects, and if you want it stay pretty don't touch it with oily fingers. It stains easily, though the stains do no harm.

Stock 2.0L crank and rods with 1.8L heads makes for a bump in the compression ratio. Put 2.0 valves in the 1.8 heads, and you make up for the non-optimal plug location issues with the increase in compression. Plus the 1.8L heads don't drop valve seats like the 2.0L heads.


If you do it, make sure you run premium gas all the time. driving-girl.gif

Shane's going to help us gather some serious real world survival data on these heads. He's using them on a ChumpCar 914 that will be beat on by rent a ride racers!

Just wanted to add my experience so far with these AA Piston heads. They seem to be holding up well. I only have 500 miles or so on them, but have peaked ~390 head temps on #3 a few times up hill and a recheck of the valves has shown no adjustment needed.

I also went with the bus 10mm swivel adjusters on them.

I'll report back more once I get my carbs jetted correctly.

What Kinda $$$ money did these cost ?? Are they Brand New or just yours redone ??

The Group Buy was $1275. With Ceramic coating then went up to $1500. Total was $1539 shipped to me.

Now these are the same NEW 2.0 heads from AA Pistons, but with Len Hoffmans full rework.

Mine are holding up well.
