I take it we are talking about paint transfer methods. Have not done it, but seen it done every cool. Just looking to clarify the conversation.

I've had it done.

Not as durable as powder coating. Think of it as paint. If something would scratch paint, then its going to scratch whatever got dipped.

A friend of mine has made a business dipping wheels and other stuff. Some of the interior trim on my WRX has been dipped and looks great. I also had a deer skull dipped and it looks awesome.

As with anything else, its ALL about prep. the surface has to be clean, and has to have some base color applied. after the item is dipped my guy will go back in with an airbrush and get all the hollow areas the film can't reach into, so you don't just have base color showing through. Finally, a couple coats f clear are applied for durability.

Yes it’s basically ink on a plastic sheet that dissolves in water as the printed ink is reactivated with a solvent. The pattern floats on the water and you dip the parts so the ink conforms to the shape of the part. You tube hydro graphic dipping and you should see how it’s done. You’ll need to put a clear coat over it. It’s as durable as a good clear coat depending on what environment it’s in. The company in Southern Cali I would contact is Shmaze.

This interior kit I got with a parts purchase was hydro-printed by a previous owner (it's for sale by the way).
