I am just starting to build my GT replica. Did these size wheels work with your steel flares? did you use spacers with the 5 lug conversion? Thanks for any info you can offer.

Art - first off, good luck with the build! Post it on 914world so we can all follow along!
So my flares are old school fiberglass, but that shouldn't matter. I am running 944 hubs and brake disks on 911 struts, with an additional 28mm total of spacer at the front. This gave loads of clearance to the flares and NO rubbing on inside wheel wells on full lock (the spindles are raised 18mm, but I don't think this makes any significant difference to body clearance). This with 7Jx15 fronts, standard 944 ET.
At the rear, I modified the arms with the Tangerine Racing conversion to '86 Carrera 911 e-brake, calipers and 911 vented disks. Currently running no spacers, but will probably add a few mm at some future point, to fill out the flares a bit more. This with 8Jx15 rears, standard 944 ET. Not even close to body work. Bear in mind my rear camber is set around 1deg neg; lowering the car from stock can make for large portions of neg camber - which may cause tire rubbing concerns on full travel - if not addressed.
Lots of clearance in either case. Your flares may of course vary, depending on fit and source! Unless you're wanting 8's and 9's (or 9's and 10's!) then you should be able to get something to work without breaking a sweat.
