Figured if I blocked them off it would allow more cooling air to go to the oil cooler and cylinder fins instead of just out to the atmosphere under the car. I realize if you still have the heating system and it is off it eventually just vents outside anyway but figured anything could help an AC'ed car, especially in Arizona!!!

Just blocking them off will have a negative effect on cooling. Think about what happens when air is blown into a blind hole.
Do you run an oil temp gauge? It you can hit over 250 under sustained griving you need more oil cooling.
