I think my brakes may be toast, I’ve been soaking them in a mix of Marvel Oil and some leftover unused diesel weight truck motor oil for about a month now and I hope they come free. We’ll see if they come loose with some pb blaster too. Do any of you guys know if this fits for front brakes?

I know it’s probably not going to be as good as oem, I’m just a poor college student haha. My goal here is simply driving and stopping safely, I’ll do a full restoration in a few years when I’ve got the money to. I’d just hate to miss out on these cars and then have them skyrocket the way 911’s seem to have done.

Those calipers are for GM (General Motors) and will not fit the 914.

I'd place a WTB ad in the classifieds, add how much you are willing to spend with shipping and see if you get any bites.

Try rockauto.com for some deals on calipers usually pretty cheap.

+1 for placing a WTB ad. You may be able to get a set of rebuildable cores at a very good price.

Rock auto has rebuilt fronts for $45 each.. They are not restored like PMB does but they will stop your car.

You haven't mentioned if you're struggling with the fronts or rears.

Both are pretty fubar'ed but I'll check how they're looking once I get home. The guys in my auto shop class mentioned a quick fix would be to get front brakes and crimp off the back brake lines w/ vice grips, but I'm not too hot on that idea unless I'm out of options.

Will I be able to use '76 front calipers on my '70 car? I'm pretty sure it's only the rears that are different from early/late, right?

Another option for the front, is a BMW caliper conversion...not talked about too much lately...pretty popular as an inexpensive conversion back in the day...although haven't priced these parts in a long time. Most have gone with the 5 lug conversion and Porsche "M" brakes in the front.

I have the BMW 320i brakes and I am very happy with them. good stopping power and very easy to modulate at the limit.

No, the rears would not matter, but the fronts are not interchangeable.

Your auto class buddies are trying to KILL you with the suggestion of disabling rear brakes. In a 914 that would cause a spin and likely a crash.

I'm all for learning, but you are right to doubt their advice.
Just tell them you had a better idea and got a cheap boat anchor at Harbor freight and tied it to the engine block with a chain. You can just throw it out to stop. Just say it with a straight face.

I'd pay a dollar to hear their response.

Trust the guys here. If you do replace them use the same part. They are not too terribly expensive.
