On the outside chance anyone has a NOS early dash top, I'd love to buy it for my -6 resto. Thought I'd check before I send mine to Just Dashes.

I haven't seen one offered for sale in years. I would try to find a good used one. Just dashes does nice work but it doesn't look the same as oem.

^^ JD typically does US market dashes and US grain vinyl. European used a different grain. Can't say if they have have it or not but you would want to ask. Costs more because it's imported.

50 yo dash is going to be dried out used or nib. You might not really want one anyways. I have an uncracked late pad that I'm afraid to even move. One day in this 116F heat could be it's demise.

Went the Just Dashes route with the last one at the shop after starting with the closest to perfect core I sourced from Rich. He had a small handful of cores to chose from at the time.

My advise, start with the best possible core as there is always a chance for more serious cracks to distort the recover and if you are doing the upper you unfortunately are going to want them to do the lower as well as the recover material is not a perfect match.


Pre 72 cars are a pain

I bought a couple very rusty 914’s that had amazing good upholstery and dashes. They were garage kept cars but winter salt and summer humidity killed them. They didn’t get the solar radiation that you guys in the west deal with. Unfortunately, I can’t offer up the dashes because I need them for my builds. But you never know what someone might have in their stash.

I have a newer model NOS dash that I bought from eBay about six years ago, but for our BB restoration.

I had Just Dashes do the dash in my 6; it had previously been leather wrapped. They did a great job and it still looks nice; I do not think you would be disappointed Ian.

I have a good dash but how does one tell whether its early or late?

The relief for the glovebox goes further to the right because early cars dont have dash vents.

Ian, I had Just Dashes redo all my 914-6 interior pieces including the dash and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the results. I had it done about 15 years ago because I couldn’t locate NOS either. The interior still looks as new.

The early dashes didn't have side vents, so the glove box door is about an inch closer to the right edge. On early dash tops the angled opening for the glove box begins about 3 inches from the right. On later ones, the bend is about 4 inches from the right.

Thanks! I've seen their work and it's definitely nice. But a full interior set (dash pad, a pillars, b pillars, targa bar) approaches 9K today (!)...and the grain isn't a perfect match.
