I have begun repairing the rusted areas on the 'burnt' car. There has been several areas that where obviously large enough that a patch panel was needed, but I've run into several small areas that appear to need just a fill.
When should someone decide to fill instead of patch? Also, if filling, what's the best method, using a copper 'spoon' or not? This shows 2 holes that appear to have good metal between them, therefore, I'd like to just fill. Thanks again for all of the assistance. Attached image(s) ![]() |

Rough rule of thumbz:
Patch when the metal is thin from the rust. If you try to weld to something the thickness of tinfoil, the hole WILL get larger. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Fill if the hole is small and the surrounding area is solid. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blowtorch.gif) Sometimes a little solder or lead is a quick way to patch. Fills the hole and the pits! Won't rust if ya clean it gud! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rocking nana.gif) Don't use solder with copper chill plates!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Ken |
