Like Mike, I just made a costly mistake because I didn't check a previous owners' work. After waiting for an eternal backorder, got in a Mallory Unilite, hooked it up, double checked the wiring, turn key, no start. Hm. Wires on correctly. Try to get spark with grounded plug from distributor. Nope. Try again straight from the coil. Nope. Check the actual voltage at the wire connected to the + terminal on the coil. Nada. Hm. Check it at the - post: 12v. Doh! PO hooked up the coil backwards! This works (some) with points, but not with electronic ignition...Still no spark after reversing the wires, so there's a good chance I smoked the Unilite module with it hooked up backwards.
Need to run the full Unilite checks shown on Mallory's site to make sure, but this is a $90 mistake if it is, indeed, kaput. I may just point the friggin' points 009 I got with the car until I can assemble an EDIS ignition... Hey Mike, when you make a trigger wheel, would you make two? |
