Does the Bosch Blue Coil actually give you a better spark then one I can get at my FLAPS?

It's better matched for your system...I've seen some FLAPS coils melt points, etc.
The blue coil is cheap and works good...besides the blue coil (s) were goods enough for the 917, etc....

BTW you can pick one up at any aircooled bug shop.

I heard the quality has gone down on them since the 60s or whenever they first showed up. I think they are made in Mexico or Brazil now. I think you're unlikely to see any performance leap from using a different coil unless like Mark says you are using a coil not designed for the points/condensor in your car (not very likely imho).
