Ok, chalk this one up under a stupid question if you want to, but do your intake runners get hot enough so that you cannot hold them without serious discomfort? I have noticed a strange "hot metal" smell coming from my engine bay that I never noticed before. I know the engine is metal and gets hot but this is different. A few times when I parked the car, I could feel the heat coming out of the engine grill (no rain tray). Am I paranoid? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

A few people have noted that air intake temps on a 100dF day are around 120dF, so that's unlikely to be the smell you're thinking of. Now when the engine is shut off, all of the engine heat is going to come out and much of it will rise into the engine bay...

In my cooling system testing I found fan inlet temps at 115F a standard number.
Buy a CHT.. or its all guess work.. |
