Anyone have any reccomendations for a company to transport a car from Grand Rapids to Cleveland? FedEX will do it in an enclosed carrier for $650. I thought that was decent...and a quick transit time.

car is in michigan..you are in ohio.....drive it home in 1 day! You could actually plot your course along the routes of known 914 owners in case you have troubles!

I've used DAS but to a terminal. There are independants that will pick up and deliver door to door (no multi-car trailer or terminal storage) in an enclosed trailer.

It would be much cheaper to just drive it home. Its only approx 300 miles. I know you said you were going to fly up to look at it, so if you are going to buy it drive it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) Another option is since you are there just rent a 14' U-Hual truck & auto transport trailer if you don't want to drive. The rates on the U-Haul website for a oneway rental is $247 for the truck plus $69 for the transport. I have done this in the past before I had Pickup truck. |

Drive up with a buddy and drive it home. That way if there is any problems you already have a "rescue" car with you.
Trip up and back 600 miles + 300 miles in the teener @ 20 mpg is 45 gals @ $2.00 per = $90 to get it home Add in buying your buddy Breckfast, lunch and dinner ( and yourself) another $100 Time 1 day savings $650 - $190 = a new set of tire (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |

I got a call from a buddy that owns the local Saab dealership this morning, so I asked him. He put me in touch with the guy that doeas all their transporting, and he'll do it for me...for only $300! (in a covered vehicle no less!)
Here's the scenerio as I see it... 350mi = 6hrs each way (at LEAST one by myself) January = Salt, snow and slush (things I didn't want to expose the car to) Car = 2000ish lbs / 32yrs old Michigan & Ohio = Snowbelt in January (See above) Wasn't worth the gamble for me. I could see the headlines now... Man dies in yellow sports car day before his 30th birthday bring his present home....news at 11. I'll pay the $300.
