Upon startup after the car sat for about 3 weeks, I noticed a bunch of fuel squirting out from the fuel pump area. Like lots. When a pump fails, is this normal? Why does the car keep running? My fuel lines are relatively new and were not leaking at all before.
Any ideas on where I can find a deal on 73 fuel pump?? |

Look at it before you buy a new one. Nut! You are almost as bad as me!
Fix it AFTER you figure out where the failure is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Mr. Paranoid-troubleshooter |

QUOTE(cavwpguy @ Oct 6 2003, 07:58 PM) Upon startup after the car sat for about 3 weeks, I noticed a bunch of fuel squirting out from the fuel pump area. Like lots. When a pump fails, is this normal? Why does the car keep running? yes - the O-ring that sits between the 'pump' part and the 'electrical' part gets old, brittle, and breaks. common failure mode. the car keeps running because in a recirculating system, the pump is moving a lot more fuel than the engine needs, especially at idle. i have no clue on replacement parts but in the turbo-Ford-914 thread we remembered that MSD has a pump that appears to have similar specs to the T-IV pumps for less money. that is the extent of my knowledge on this subject, sorry ... |
