i added a page with all the available 914 color codes.

i'm sure i missed a few and some might not be correct, so please,
have a look at the list and give me some feedback ...

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=colors

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif) Andy

PS: that list is dynamic and will eventually be used to check against color codes supplied in the VIN section, so i'd like to get this as accurate as possible ...

Sunflower yellow was available in 74. Could make a copy of the paperwork that came with my car in 74 if you need proof.

Cool chart and I can see mine was Willow Green at on time. Then it was silver and then red which is what it is getting right now.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) Nice to know stuff here!

you might want to put a black border around the "ivory white" section. or a dot or something to tell us when they were offered. great job though!

I'm emailing my list.
The xx10 code only ever showed the xx, never the 10. This code basically says the roof was black (10) for examples see 911 targas.
The xx10 code was aparently used from the earliest 914/6 until about 1972 when the VW code was used.
To my knowledge, the Porsche code was never used, I have seen no examples of it.
My list also shows another code that shows up on the COA.

i got it. thanks! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

question:

are you sure black has the code "L041" with a numeric 1 at the end?

all other codes end with a letter and i was under the assumption the code was "L04I" with an uppercase i at the end ...

anyone know for sure?

Absolutely positive on the L041. Yes it is rather unique in that way. I'd put the different codes on one line since they are fully equivalent. It does shorten the list to a more compact size.

Just checked my book. The VW code superceded the xx10 code beginning VIN 9141430399. This was due to paint shop confusion.

ok, so i fixed the xx10 codes ...

just to clarify, are you saying that the "early" 3-digit 914-6 codes were actually never used ???

Correct. Going back to 0012 they have two digit code, confirm Glenn?
0033 actually has 29/29, no idea why. No indication the 3 digit code was ever used.

We could add the German color names. So many codes have multiple names.

I've worked on the paint codes for 25 years, just never posted it before. Andy still has to split the silvers. The changeovers were not clean cut either. L96D extended into 1975, and some were used after L99A came out.

It is much the same story as the chassis numbers. The 9000 series came out but were interspersed with 9500 series for a while. My LE falls on the late side of the rear brake pressure reducer change, but has the early style anyway. It's engine should have been used in October not March.
