Well, never started a "build" thread...so here goes.
Found the car outside LA and actually drove it home. Drove it through the canyons a few times...then the "sickness" set in. Yes, I had to tear this car apart. Don't know why. I am an IT Project Manager by trade and a car junkie with the most limited tools ever. List of cars come and gone: 1976 Lancia Beta HPE - high school Mulholland drive runner 1983 Fiat 2000 Spider Turbo - sweet car with a POS transmission 1967 Cadillac CDV - Lead Sled 1973 MGB GT - should have never sold it And now, a 1970 Porsche 914 Here it is, in the seller's driveway...rippled, wavy, fogged paint. 2.0 with dual webers; ran well then. Here it is 3 weeks later, told you I was sick! |

You may remember I was the January poster child in the club 2007 calendar.
So, I thought how do I get this painted...no $$$ so, idiot me I rolled it on... Ha Ha ...DO NOT DO THIS, EVER! so back to the sanding, blocking, etc. Work, work, work. I bot a low pressure sprayer from ebay, and a gallon of Sherwin-Williams Western Synthetic Enamel in Coach Black for $65 with hardner; primer was an extra $20. then, spray, spray, Only one stage...clear cote on a 914....please! Color block sanded with 2000, then 3000, then hit it with the sears polisher; cut and polish. Here it is 4 months later; but really dusty. |

Wow! I am impressed! That paint looks great like the rest of the car. Looks like a driver to me!

Looks like a great project. On the rear, put the wheel back on and drop the car on the ground. Use a long breaker bar 3/4 drive and loosen the nut. Jack it back up and remove the wheel, nut and rotor. then remove the inner hub, bring it to a drill press to drill out the bolt...its a safer way to get it straight. Rich |
