The data plate that should be riveted to the side of the headlamp bucket was missing from my 'sixer when I got it. Any ideas on where to get a new one? Are they even available? I imagine they're a bit of a touchy subject sometimes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Anything with a VIN on it is a legal issue. I don't think the part was ever available. Finding the original would be the best solution.
