QUOTE(tod914 @ Jun 22 2011, 04:48 PM) *

Are steel rims available new? I'd like to follow Gint's suggestion. I was hesitant on driving it on the hiway home, from the pickup location. Made it back without incident. Think the fuel lines scared me more than the tires.

Last year I bought my '74 in original condition. It was last driven in '76-77 before I bought it. It only had 30K miles.
The original Michi looked good (but dry) when I started the first drive but, I reached the wire reinforcement after 2 days!
Replaced them with new tires and never looked back.

DON'T DRIVE THEM!

Hi Tod. I'm glad she made it to you safely and even more glad that you are happy with the condition.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get a hold of the seller (my fault) in time to arrange another photo session, so you may hear from me in the future with a request for a particular photo.

Enjoy her, she is a beaut!

Bud, I just started stripping out the interior. I'll take detailed photos of all the bolts, nuts, washers, and what goes where. I'll set up webpage for it when I get time. Maybe the reference will also be helpfull for Carrie, who is doing the nut & bolt kits. Don't hesitate to ask if you need some reference. If you could PM me your last name too.. Only have your address. I'll get something in the mail for you tomorrow (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Thanks again.
Tom, I found a nice local storage warehouse close by. They only take in Porsches and Ferraris. The red car will go there for the time being. Also have to drop it off to John and Ray Patterak to fix a few chips and scratch marks prior to long term storage. Could use some input on tires for the new one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I want to stay with 165s. Michelelin XZX @ $180 a pop are too pricey.. besides the car has ZX tires on it. So, whatever goes on it XZX or something else, won't be factory correct anyway.
Again, thanks for the kind words folks. I was very lucky to get this one. I'll document the "resto" if you want to call it that, the best I can. All the scuff marks and scratches on the exterior cleaned up nicely. Rich keep me posted on the rims. Thanks for looking. I'm checking w/Porsche to see if new are available.

Lot of work Bud. Pulled the interior and spent the last two days removing spray adhesive that was everywhere. Taking pictures as well. Have my parts list together for the local P dealer. I should have some shots posted in a week or two.
After it was washed, I managed to get all the scuff/scratch marks out. Will be really nice when it's done. Have you had a chance to do any work on your car?

Nice car! When I first saw the thread title, I thought of the license plate on the front of my car (which is very far removed from CW):

That's funny Geoff. I was talking to the original owner yesterday. He said that one of his students gave him a South American tree frog to go with his car. Think he said the frog lasted about a year before it croaked.

Wow Tod, maybe his tree frog was a deaf-mute, or just a slow talker!!?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
