First of all, let me say this: let's not turn this into a 4 vs: 6 thread. I like them both and really don't give a damn about your position on this non-issue.

All the legal stuff out of the way, let's talk engine.

First of all, this project is well advanced. The engine is already together and the 20 minute cam run in has been done. But let's talk about how we got to that point first...

This motor is a 2432 Raby kit. It uses the LE200 heads and stock 2liter cylinders. The stroked crank is 84mm I believe so think of it as a super-stroker. It will run Jenvey throttle bodies and SDS injection. The EFI sensors I have chosen to use will be TPS, CHT, MAP, IAT, O2 in closed loop, and I think that is everything. Injectors are Ford Red Top. This motor requires quite a bit of engine block clearance so as they say, don't try this at home...

It took me about three trips down to Original Customs to put the engine together. I used McMark's shop so I could get his free advice which he of course charges me for, and I don't get distracted by wives wondering how much all of this costs. Plus Mark has an engine break-in stand that allows us to fire it out of the car and correct anything that might be wrong without having to pull an already installed motor.

Here is a dyno sheet of one of these motors that Jake actually built. I would expect that my result might be within 10% of his. :Insert fingers crossed smiley here:

So, any idea why the #1 exhaust pipe got so hot? Was it just for break-in, or was it still doing it the next time you fired it up?

What were you doing with that box and wire near the end?

Dave,
That pipe is drilled for a EGT probe. So there was an open tiny hole allowing air in and burning unburned fuel in the pipe. Add to that, those carbs were inadequate for that motor so it was running lean. It wasn't a problem because the engine was on a stand and not under load.

Thats header always has an elevated EGT on #1. We have been seeing this for years on the dyno.

The box w/ wire was a Fluke meter with a temperature probe on it. I was checking the exhaust pipe voltage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Cool, all of those make sense. Even McMark's answer, sort of. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Thanks for clearing that up.

Dave, I love that you understand us... But, no. Those answers don't make sense. You can come and hang with us at the OC anytime! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

How could you tell the #1 pipe was hot with the #2 pipe glowing so brightly nearby? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sunglasses.gif)

BTW, running that lean is a quick way to destroy the coating on a header.

Chris,
This is not your original coating. They were just re-coated at a Jet Hot facility here before being installed. Once the EFI is on, they will never run that hot again. After the 20 minutes, the header coating looks fine.

Here is another Original Customs application. This is something that Mark has done on a few EFI engine builds so it is tested and works. One of the parameters SDS uses to meter fuel is the temperature and thus, density of the intake air. This is the IAT or intake air temperature sensor. Mark has fabricated a mount that puts this between the air cleaners on the right side throttle bodies.
Next up, the linkage. A much better than hex bar solution!

Now that is a very accurate linkage set up. Mark had to source longer threaded rod to go between the pivot and the throttle body because this engine is so wide.
Nicely activated by this sexy little cable guide fabricated by Mark at the OC... I like it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
