I got the flywheel back from the clutch and brake place. The aluminum spacer was fine. I assembled the parts and mounted the flywheel. I was also able to cut out the 1/4" plate.

Do you plan on balancing the assembly?

Yes I have a friend that has done it for me for my 914 setup.

So I was thinking about this whole design early this morning and I think I am working on a redesign already. More to come.

Reminds me of the project creep that can annoy and satisfy. Good luck!

Do-overs... I know the feeling. We're always happier with version N+1! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)
Such a cool build.

I hear ya. I already scrapped the 1" adapter I spent a month sourcing materials, chasing parts, and cutting the dang thing out. But hey, I learned alot and had to re-remember what I did way back in 2003 when I started this thing.

What triggered the redesign was the thread on the failed clutch on the LS Boxster post. I did a search on line and see the flywheel for the LS has a very extended "HAT" I will call it. So I took some measurements for what I currently have and figured out a way to extend mine without moving the flywheel out away from the block.

I even called Kennedy to see if they would attach their part to my flywheel. I received a very cold reception and answer. So much for the easy route.

I have an issue with Kennedy too.

Inquired about getting an adapter ring spec'd for the 3.5 timing plate and they said they had a new design and I would need a $900 flywheel made. So I fiddled with it more and all I needed to do was rotate the ring 45*.

Then I decided to postpone the upgrade and mount the 3.5 to a subaru trans instead.

Sorry I can't offer more help, I have no idea how all your stuff fits together... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I was super impressed you got it done the first time.

I have been doing more research on the factory style Boxster clutch. I realized they have a duel mass flywheel. I read that and asked myself " what the heck is a duel mass flywheel?? I called Clay and asked him. He described it as two discs with rubber between them. I thought What the Heck, What if I design something similar without the rubber. So I cut out a second 1" disc and used a 1/4" plate and ended up with the exact measurement I needed to install the transaxle without surgery.

One step closer (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Hey Rick , your gunna love this. When I was sophomore in HS my father put a Jag clutch disk on his '56 AH 100. He was fallowing Carol Shelby's example of a 260 ford AH hot rod. I think you can do almost anything you can imagine. Come on, the slippers use counter weights and multiple plates. I have a slipper in a sandrail that used shimmes to space the pressure plate from the flywheel.

Do you still have your 100S?

Hey Joe! Thanks for the kind words. This is seems to be a never ending project. I sold the 100-4 several years ago and spent the money to purchase the Raspberry 914.

I would love to here those new traps! Miss you my friend. Hope our paths cross again some day. Drive it like you stole it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

I thought I would lend some validity to the direction I am going with this flywheel. This is a Boxster Engine. The distance from the trans mounting surface on the block to the face of the clutch disc surface is 4.5cm or 1 3/4" that is what I have now.

Finished the flywheel today. I cut the center out of the 1/4 steel spacer and the second 1" aluminum spacer ring and used my router to finish the aluminum to size. I still need to send it to get balanced but this is a major hurtle.

I finished the adapter plate tonight and bolted the transaxle to the engine.

Working on the starter mount tonight. I may end up using the botched 1" adapter plate after all. At least the bottom section... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)
