We all know (or you do now) that CV's are NLA for the 914. The Type 1 CV kits are roughly the same but require a tad bit of machining expertise.
Mike (of Mueller fame) and I are teaming up to offer the finished kits (machining and all). We have the first evaluation batch on the way to Mike's shop as we speak. Target price is between $59.00 and $72.00 per kit (depends Meyle vs. Lobro), as we check for quality issues with each brand. This will be a complete kit which, from our initial understanding, includes: (1) CV Joint (1) Boot (1) Washer (1) Clip (1) Tube of Grease (4) Bolts (possibly) This will be a direct replacement to the original 914 CV. Spline counts, depth and size are identical. Machine work involves boring out two of the through holes to accept the 914 CV roll pins and installing those pins. Interested? |

Great price, considering that's less, as I recall, than I sold the last remaining OE ones I got from Worldpac, without all that extra cool stuff. Might wanna include the washers for the cv joint bolts, though. The Cap'n

QUOTE Might wanna include the washers for the cv joint bolts, though. Agreed. Thanks Cap'n. It's around $10.00 more than a standard type 1 kit at CIP1.com so I think it's quite the value. I'm not sure if the original kit comes with new schnorr's or not but we could look into packaging a more complete kit with schnorrs and gaskets as well. On the surface it may not look to be the same value but anyone having to do this will need both and getting them from one source can only save money and time. |

Do I smell a "Pro-CV" kit?
Lobros with Evil bolts, washers, gaskets and enough bailing wire to hold it all together? Other Mike, you der? |

Count me in as well. My driver side CV is knocking a bit and I have been meaning to call Mueller.

Although I am not in need of CV's at the moment, I am interested in the kit when I do need to replace mine!

If you keep them in that price range I would buy a set of four and put them on the shelf. I'm in. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif)
Not so long ago I replaced the two driver's side CV's with OE CV's because one was clicking noticably. I ordered them from Zims in Texas. Like a dummy I threw the old ones away, even though one of them was reusable, not thinking they would become unobtainable shortly after. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |

Eric,
I am interested. I believe I have the OE pieces in my car, or at least they have never been changed since I bought my car in 1989. However, I am upgrading to a big Raby breed engine (2615cc´s) and installed a Guard LSD in the transmission. Would the stock pieces be OK or should I think on a beefier set? Pelican sells a complete axle set with the CV´s which they call "High Performance Axle Upgrade Kit" for almost $800... |

Another vote for a "Pro" kit, with safety wirable bolts, new washers, Lobros, boots, etc. I'd buy a set.

Pelican sells a complete axle set with the CV´s which they call "High Performance Axle Upgrade Kit" that sells for almost $800... I would guess that a Pro-CV set would set you back about 1/2 that. The Good Dr. Evil hasn't weighed in here but Lobro's with all the goodies may be in the @ $89 - $95 range. ($356.00 - $380 per set) I'm sure someone here knows more about the PP kit. From what I understand it is a VW Transporter (Bus, Combi) axle set with adapters. I think for what you're getting with their kit, it is worth the dough. I just don't think most 914's are in need of that. This kit is intended to be a stock replacement -or- a replacement with the saftey wired bolts etc. Most cars are still running around with stock CV's so... I think these will be a suitable replacement. Up to the individual and the hp they're looking to run. You can DEFINATELY blow out CV's with a bunch of torque and hp. I'm looking at running about 220 with stock CV's |

I'd be interested in a set. I only have one OEM one left.

Ah yes, the Pelican kit is VW bus axles with adaptors. Probably could be made for less as the axles are not that much last I checked, but I could be wrong. Not realy necessary for the garden variety 914, though.

Please forgive my ignorance...it means 4 kits to replace the OE pieces I have...correct?? Let me know when they become available. BTW...did you receive my envelop? |
