I have been asked by the family / estate to offer their 914-6 for sale. . The gentleman who owned the car was a very long time PCA member and as such, this was his baby. . It has remained unused in the estate for the last 7 years, carefully preserved and stored, and they feel it is now time to move forward with the cars sale. . .

This is a later production 1970 914-6 {Vin = 914-043-24xx}, all numbers matching. It has a PCA COA and complete ownership documentation since original delivery. It was sold by Bill Yates Porsche on 11-1-1971 and has lived its entire life in Southern California. Now owned since March 1987 by the 4th documented owner. Mileage is currently at 74200 total documented miles and it is in excellent condition. Other than routine starting and maintenance, it has not seen the road since the owners passing in early 2007. It does have current California title and registration. It has had 1 repaint in the original factory Metallic Silver which was done by one of San Diego’s best Porsche paint shops.. No known accidents or body damage. No rust is evident, visible or known of. The car has competed in local Zone 8 PCA Concours, the last documented date was San Diego Region 1992 with a 1st place.

Here is where it gets really interesting > The owner was a dedicated 914-6 aficionado. He loved driving the car and knew the value of keeping the car original. . As such, he had the original 901-38 {#640XXXX} engine removed and preserved in late 2006 with 73486 original miles and it was in perfect running condition. He then had a local Porsche Specialist shop build and install a correct original factory 2.2 S motor which is now in the car. Due to his passing shortly after that, the S motor now has less than 800 miles on it. Full documentation available with an extensive new parts list totaled right at $14K for the motor. The car was/is extremely fast and reliable. Both motors are included in the sale, as well as a few other original Six parts which he removed and preserved. The car has the correct 5.5 x 14 inch Fuchs, including the spare.

And for the best part. . the extensive spare parts he accumulated.
There are literally hundreds of pictures of many rare, vintage original parts. .most significant of which is a set of 5 Mahle ‘Gas Burners’ with tires. Should the buyer of the car chose, these may be included with the car for their market value, but will not be sold outright.
There are 3 set of Euro tail lens’, a pair of NIB-NOS 914 Euro Fog Lights, a set of NIB-NOS Cibie Halogen headlights, plus around a hundred or so other parts, some NIB unused. He parted out another 914-4 and has boxes and boxes of used parts carefully stored.

Parts will be available, as a group purchase, to the buyer of the car with 1st right of refusal.

Car and parts were moved from San Diego and now stored in the Chicago area by the estate. Car has not been driven in that local other than in and out of storage facility for maintenance and cleaning.. Available for inspection by appointment to qualified buyers.

My signal orange 914-6 has the original engine on a crate in a warehouse of mine and the car is running a 2.2 911S engine with MFI. I was told by a Porsche collector he would pay me $15,000 for the engine. I thought he was just blowing hot air. Maybe not.

I'm one of those potential buyers but not really interested in buying an additional engine and $10k worth of parts with it. Don't have the storage space for a spare engine.

Has original 914-6 owners manual and the original maintenance manual. . not reproductions. . It does have a folder of all shop and maintenance receipts.
Pictures of the toolkit below, looks like it's missing the 19-22 box end wrench, correct screwdriver and the correct small end lug wrench..

Concerning the use of the work "Original" in this listing. . A better description might be "As Manufactured", meaning it hasn't been modified, hacked up, or changed other than Eurolight lens{Front has Euro bulbs} and a Permature CD box that I am aware of.

Motor is with Webbers with K&N filters now , has OE Six air cleaner assembly included with the car as well as OE Six steering wheel, front and rear USA lens, and foot dogbone..

I'm one of those potential buyers but not really interested in buying an additional engine and $10k worth of parts with it. Don't have the storage space for a spare engine.

The parts are a separate sale from the car, however the buyer of the car has the opportunity of first refusal should they chose. . from what I've seen of them, there a a lot of desirable vintage parts and well worth the asking price with the car . . I priced the parts individually using this site and EBay as a reference and come up with around $10K in resell value. Some you'll never find like a set of NIB 914 Yellow Fog lights, vintage NIB Cibie headlights, 3 sets Euro tail lens, NIB OE 914 Chrome fog grills. . there are hundreds of parts .
If they do not sell with the car, the estate may list the parts individually at a later date or list them as a group buy at their more approximate value.. Only because the estate would like to have this be a group purchase were they listed at the current price.

Think about how long ago people said the same thing about 356's. . 15 years maybe. . and how long ago was the same sentiment said concerning early 911's. . . maybe 5 - 10 years. . and there are a whole lot less Six's out there. .

Also, I'm not saying all Six's deserve upscale prices, as condition, originality, mileage and history are what sets the stage. A previously wrecked or rusted out Six, even properly repaired, will probably not be equated with an original condition, low mileage, numbers matching, documented cars value.

The factory 2.2S motor in this car can easily be pulled and sold to the Early 911 aficionados and the original 2.0 reinstalled. . should bring $15-20k if someone went that route. . which makes this car's price tag around $75K, and is certainly realistic for a low miles, documented Six. .

just to be clear, i'm not disputing the asking $. i guess it's just the lowly 914 catching up with the rest of the collectible car market. the new kid on the block if you will. classic american cars have crested the peak from what i've seen on the auctions.

I'm seriously looking for a six and willing to pay market value, but $95k seems high given a very nice example just went for 60K on eBay.

I'd be comfortable with $70K for the as is vehicle and original drivetrain, hint...hint...

I love my 914 but for 95k I'm buying a 911. maybe even a 356. there have been a lot of 914 -6 non originals for good prices lately . I might be able to buy 3 of those instead

Besides that, you can go to a place like CPR in fall brook and spend the same amount and have a brand new perfect paint job, rebuilt motor and trans, new interior, etc,etc with 0 miles and no issues and no excuses. Or you can spend 95K and spend more to fix everything that isnt perfect. I mean if your going to ask 95k-100k for a 914-6 it absolutely better be 100% perfect in every way. If you have the gall to ask that for the car then the buyer can have the proper expectation that, the car be perfect. I mean a fully documented car with proper receipts of the work that was done. A no excuse vehicle!! Example the paint has a few imperfections. No scratch paper kind of receipt thing going on. I want to know where the car was restored and by whom, show me the receipts and the money!! Call me crazy. You have to ask yourself this simple question, if I owned this vehicle right now could I sell it for 95k-100k. Without hesitation, its not going to happen. However, if i wait a couple of years I know these cars will appreciate and I will eventually get what i am asking. Just wait, or in this case this seller just wait, he will eventually get what he's asking for.

This is not a correct tool kit for a '70 914-6. Screw driver, spark plug wrench, pliers are all wrong. If the wrenches say "Selected Special Steel" they are wrong and if the 19mm lug wrench isn't tapered at the end it is wrong also. looks like a '74 and later set for a 911.

For what it's worth, I have already talked to the estate trustee about the missing 22-19 spanner, and the lug wrench and screwdrivers being from the wrong years, and advised them they either find the correct tools or plan on some compensation to a buyer. . As in any sale, it's all negotiable. . .
Please remember this was the husbands car and unfortunately he's not here to tell where everything came from and why. . The estate is doing everything they can to be honest, forthcoming, and will disclose everything they know.

The car will be offered to the general public in the November issue of the Panorama.
I have also been asked multiple times about selling the 2.2 S motor separately. . The estate prefers selling the complete package as it is presented here. .
If it doesn't sell before next summer, they are considering having the original engine reinstalled, reducing the price for the car alone to the $80K range, and sell the 2.2S motor separately.
