Did some assembly and painted the SBC engine for my conversion.
Wasn't feeling the Chevy Orange (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
The car and trans are silver, didn't need anymore... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
Black is cool with aluminum heads, but just too corporate for me right now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif)
So went with old school finned valve covers and threw some paint on everything.
Should look good hiding down in the bay... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Nice colors. Can't wait to see the car.

Put a period Becker Europa radio in--first time I've had tunes in, well, since I bought my 914 in 1995. I got the Becker from a Canadian off the Samba--fourth try at a radio, and finally got one that worked! The Becker was $80 plus $30 shipping and works like a champ.

Here 'tis...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

What model is that?

The Europa (not Europa II), non-stereo. Not sure of model number though.

Only took me four radios to get a working one! (2 Blaupunkts, and one Sapphire before the Becker). Sent one of the Blaupunkts to a shop in CA to be fixed...total goat rope so far. Anyway, don't need it anymore!

My old cassette radio was old and tried looking. The radio worked but the cassette stopped working five years ago. Replaced it today with an AM Blaupunkdt radio. I don't listen to it. I rather hear my Bursch muffler!

i recently sold a becker europa it was from an old benz it almost worked but didnt. still got a good chunk of change for it.
What did i do to to my 914 today? I went to the junk yard and searched for a sway bar that was straight so i could cut it and make it work like the original 914 one. I ended up with a 3/4" bar from a 76 caddilac deville. Should work fine. Ill put flanged bearings in the body and make my own drop links. mini bike shock ends for the bottoms and 4 wheeler tie rod ends for the tops. and make my own adjustable sway bar ends with a slot for adjustment and squared ends to put on the bar. then ill drill and tap the bar so they dont go anywhere. should work out grand.

Tried to remove the transmission fill plug. Muscle - no way. Impact driver - nope. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Surrendered to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) and changing oil and rotating tires on wife's Pathfinder before our drive to PA this weekend.

Tried a bigger (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) with the impact driver and still no movement on the tranny fill plug. Should I try heat?

Have you tried slipping a piece of pipe over the wrench for more leverage? Sometimes I'll do this with the pipe parallel to the ground, and then put a floor jack under the pipe and jack it up. Works ***most*** of the time. Good luck!

Really wanted to get rid of the popping on deceleration. Got a new set of copper exhaust gaskets and annealed them, dropped the H/E's, refiled them square, ( threw in a valve adjustment, while I'm in there) chased the head studs, and bolted everything back up. Test run had no popping to be heard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Ran quieter, there definitely was signs of blow by on three of the four removed gaskets.

Welded on the rear trunk hinge cups after lining up the hinges. Tack'd them first and then put on the trunk lid and adjusted it. Then took off the trunk lid/hinges and finished welding the hinge cups.. I'll take pics next time I'm out in the garage.

Nice! The flangeless design of the 914 exhaust is the worst (wurst?). Engineer must've eaten some bad spargel that day.

Finally seemed to make some head way today, I was sick of dry sanding and then a day or two later getting some surface rust. So I grabbed some self edging primer and went all out on it.

Some before and after shots, sorry if I got camera happy but everyone always ask's for more shots lol

Wire brushed and lightly spray painted the shims and mounting hardware for the trailing arms. I am going to get these on this summer! Been over 20 months since the 914 went up in the air on jackstands. I gotta get this done this summer!!
Eric put those nice poly bushings in and added the grease fittings and I have been procastinating. I am ashamed of myself!! Pics later of the trailing arms.
Tom
EDIT: added pics, Eric does nice work!! Thanks again Eric.

I worked on a new umbrella cover for my car today. It took some planning and it took awhile to get it to fit just right and I'm not totally crazy obout the color but it keeps the sun off. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I got my cable issues sorted out and took Calypso out for a 60 mile shakedown run. Tomorrow is the 5 hour drive to Granville, OH for the Porsches to Ohio event. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
