It is currently 26 degrees and there is sheet ice on the roads. People around here don't know how to drive on ice, so we are staying home and the 914s are staying in the nice, heated garage.

Smart. One of the 1st things one needs to know about TX is the folks don't know how to drive on ice; yet do it anyway! Kinda like Californian's don't drive well in rain. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

They are a bunch of cowboys that think 4x4 means you can drive fast on ice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

I prefer to stay home and not be on the road with them.

Every time I see one of those 50 car pile ups somewhere up north, I say,

"Yeah, but they know how to drive on it."

It's a good idea to stay home when it's icy, no matter where you are!

yes,

I used to love driving my 914 in the snow...and even my 4x4 Silverado.

When it's icy, I don't even get the mail (like they would even deliver it)

Now that I'm in AZ I don't miss the snow, ice, salt, etc I dealt with in IA for 60+ years. My parents lived on a hill with a long driveway and several turns and when the '71 was about a year old I had almost made it to the top but unfortunately didn't make it. Backed down slowly (and I've always been a good backer upper) but lost it on the ice and went backwards through a barbed wire fence into the neighbor's field. Missed a few trees luckily. Still have some scratches in the back bumper which just add to the patina!

australians are same as californians when it comes to rain. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
i blame the technology. makes incompetent drivers feel invulnerable.
until the electronics give up on aiding their superiority.
then its mayhem. which they don't notice they are in because they are texting on their phone. which is in a holder on the dashboard and constitutes a new loophole around using the phone in the car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

its saturday and raining heavily here.
i cancelled a client meeting i was going to have.
staying at home.
going to tinker with some zip ties and vacuum hoses on the renault.
back on the road and safe to redline her now with the timing belts all done.

Installed LED headlights I got for Christmas. The difference is awesome!

Installation was easier than expected. Picture before covers reinstalled.

Well, I was able to finish the trans rebuild today after pulling the box in late November. I purchased the car in April of 2019 so I was finally able to tackle it.
The first gear synchro and spring band were pretty worn out.
Attached Image
The shift fork adjustment took at least four tries until I planed a piece of wood used to align the shift rods. With that in place everything seemed to go to the design position and worked properly after the stack was dropped in place.
Attached Image
Now I just need to wait until Michigan warms up enough to re-install the trans. I will also replace the trans mounts and engine mounts (should have done that when the 2056 went in).
Attached Image
Someday I will even learn how to rotate my pictures!

Drove my '74 about ten miles home from the shop today. It's running the best it has for several years. These cars are so damn fun when they're running well.

Among many other things, they installed the @mb911 muffler I probably bought two years ago. It looks and sounds outstanding.

Yesterday I got out for my first proper drive since the latest maintenance. Over 100 miles, nearly 4 hours in the saddle (with a few stops). Drove great and sounds amazing. Still getting a bit of popping through the carbs and a flat spot at partial throttle around 2100-2500 RPM. But that didn't prevent a lot of grins.

Can't wait for open top weather.

Also had way better fuel economy -- #3 cylinder was getting flooded before, the latest carb tune seems to have improved that.

Can't wait for open top weather.

Having a heat wave, about 40 degrees. Spent about three hours in the garage under the engine bay cleaning, scraping, vacuuming and learning. I have a crack in the firewall where the brazed tubes pass through... Tried to pull out the old plastic fuel lines in the tunnel but couldn't. Will read up on it tonight and try again tomorrow. Oh, and found a cool ratcheting 10mm wrench the PO lost in the tunnel!

"Unearthed" the engine bay and engine in my donor car. All told, I've pulled almost 3
5 gallon buckets of critter stuff and plant matter out of the engine bay and engine.

I now know what it's like to do an archeological dig...
