Was plagued all weekend at Route 66 with an intermittent miss. Thought it was spark plug wires too close to MPS, causing strange signals to the brain. Discovered today that one spark plug wire had a wear spot that allowed shielding to short to ground. Moved the wire to a better position where contact is impossible and it ran as smooth as silk. Drove it 30 miles to test & celebrate.

I bought a pair of Chris Foley's ( @ChrisFoley ) front tie-downs for my car; these are nice and heavy duty. I coated them satin black and they are now installed. Now I have front and rear tie-downs should the need arise. It's a 914, so...

Installed a rebuilt pedal cluster from Bruce Stone, what a fantastic improvement that was. Also got close and personal with parts of my car I had not explored (under the steering rack cover).
Installed a track legal fire extinguisher as well. Getting ready for a pca hpde event at Watkins Glen international speedway. |

STUNNING!!!! @Bucci @Cairo94507 boy both cars are stunning!! man, michael, that car is really looking so awesome!!!! i know you get it out a lot, so that paint still look slike brand new that tells you what an awesome job they did on it!!! I will probably need to repaint and this time get it done better its just so easy to chip, that i know they didint get it to bond correctly, which is dissapointing since i speint about $8000 onthat portion of the job only 4 years ago. -Bucci, i had that happen to me a couple years ago, bushing fell apart, i lost all but 2 gears, now i have the brass bushing in that coupler, not going to ever have to replace that again!! @DRPHIL914 Thanks for the shout out and compliment on my car..! I’ve made and tried various bronze oillite bushings at the shifter console on the transmission. I prefer the forgiveness of the plastic bushings as I was causing a bind because the shifter rod seem to be too tight. And for reference, almost 25 years ago I paid $6000 for my paint job. About $3000 more than I wanted to spend back then. One of the key components is letting the primer cure adequately and sanding. Sanding scratches can be minimal using the correct sand paper grades.! |

Sanding scratches can be minimal using the correct sand paper grades.! i think that might have been the issue because the paint itself is beautiful, it’s even , the metallic was layed down evenly so it’s just that it didn’t bind well the the primer so i figured it was not prepped well or something for it to chip so easily. |

Found one of the transmission mount ears (on the car) was not connected when removing the engine over winter. Welded it back on today. Did two passes in the groove between the part and curve of the frame member. The second bead is ugggly ... but the penetration looks good.
I got some advice on this forum regarding welding on cars. Get the parts really clean and practice. A thorough cleaning made the resulting welds are much better ... but I still need more practice. |

Found out the replacement upper valve covers we put on Elwood are warped. The reason we replaced them was the paint on them was ugly. So today I took the original valve covers and stripped them with aircraft stripper.
That is some nasty $hit. Smells terrible. But it works. We also went to a car show in Keller, TX. My nephew's wife had her DeLorean in the show. While we were there, we found this: It's a 76. The entry tag said it belongs to a Phil Mosier. If you know Phil, or are Phil, let us know. |

Installing visors…. Bought some from 914Rubber and Bamboli. Mark’s visors arrived in five days, while the other took two months and were wrong although the package had the right part # (with mirror). Bamboli sent a new pair that arrived in four days and we sent the other back with a return label.
Although the Bamboli brand was cheaper and came with mounting hardware the quality is ok, but 914Rubber is much closer to original. The texture, the mirror flap seems, and heat seals are much better from Mark, but I’m happy to put the cheap ones on our unrestored 73 1.7. Attached image(s) |

@yellowporky Ok, curious, can’t tell what brand etc. What brand wheel is that? Looks like a vintage Momo. Also, what is the horn button, it looks great! Nice upgrade. |

@Freezin 914
It is the Rennline wheel. I chose is specifically because I did not want to see the cheap horn button and I thought the visible bolts were too racey looking for a driver |

Finally got Fuched. Would you believe that after 6 914s this is my first set of factory alloys -- not counting the 5-lug stuff. Mostly steelies and sets of Rivieras, Empis, American Racing and Centerlines.
One is kinda chewed up so sorta looking for a nicer 4th in/near Las Vegas within the next decade or I start restoring Nugget, whichever comes first (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-431-1682469410.1.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-431-1682469410.2.jpg) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I fixed the hack job wireing some clod (previous owner ) did to my wire harness. The idjut had signal lights put were the fog lights supposed to go. Had to think like the idjut to figure out how shim did that . Then think like a smart person to correct it.
