Getting ready to put the engine back in. My first time.
I got the hardware all set up and positioned the engine under the car. Read all the engine removal/ install threads I could find. Have to get up the nerve to just do it tomorrow ... |

Just finished pulling out the Tilton pedals to correct the throttle return spring being over rotated. Adjusted the steering shaft so it no longer interferes with the throttle pedal.
Looking at getting the DBW linkage, sensor, and stiffer return spring. Possibly getting solid doors, Sparco seat for the passenger side, and pair of Sparco 6 pt harnesses next week. Rear targa latches acquired, as well as wiper assembly. Looking for wiper motor and washer bottle. Designed cage mods, rear firewall plans, and fuel pump/filter placement. |

We went to the Diablo Region PCA Wash 'n Shine at the Danville Livery. Very nice comfortable location; had about 100 Porsches in the show. Good crowd of people with music and Mexican food. What's not to like?
Oh, and I caught Greg T. trying to smuggle Steve's daughter, Maddie, into the show: Sadly, my co-pilot (brother) took no pictures. It was 236 miles round-trip (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) and essentially no traffic on the way there and very light traffic on the way home. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Ha! Great pic Mike. Nice to see you yesterday. Your car looked amazing as usual. My daughter just loves attending all the Porsche events with me. I’m a lucky Dad.

I stripped both rear calipers off (one at a time) to clean up on the outer side of the seals. Replaced the pad seperator springs, genuine ones available from porsche.
Adjusted the pads to 0.2mm clearance. bled up nicely. pedal now goes to the floor and the sodding brake light flashes on the gauge. left it! moved onto the rattle in the passenger door. found it and found that the window mech had popped off one of the channels. sorted that too. also found a flaky patch of paint under the door. that's been primed and ready for colour. Still have no brakes though. ah well back to it another day. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) I snuck my BIL into the infield at the Daytona 24 in the early '70's in the front trunk, after taking out the spare of course... so it can be done! |

Worked on the loose ends now that the engine is back in. Today I got the cables all situated, shift linkage back in place, axles bolted on (with new schnoor washers), replaced the oil filter and started filling with oil.
Just have a few bits left. Will install a new 12pin connector for relay board (mine was MIA and a super mess, including a terminal block screwed to the side of the relay board with jumper wires soldered to the board (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) ). Then connect the throttle cable and fuel line and that should do it for now. Hope to have her rolling this weekend. |

THIS IS HUGE! Tons of pics and details on my original thread from 2017.... Got all the topside wiring done and put the battery back in. Thought I might have messed something up when the engine was out as the starter solenoid was clicking but the starter not turning. Ends up I forgot to wire the heavy cable from the battery to the starter. Once that was sorted, she started right up! Tomorrow is going to be a driving day - the first of the summer.

finally got out for a drive.
between the weather, 1000km + work trip up country on a remote job, hangovers, etc i got to rebond with "the jaffa" (google it) this weekend for 2 hours. a mid winters day that was sunny and almost t-shirt-able. bring on global warming! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) i got to say i love this car after 30+ years and having been trapped in my audi A3 sportback for 5 days going up country for over 1000k, the audi is comfortable, sort of, but boring as all hell and the 914, well you got to drive it rather than sit in it. fingers crossed i did not cop another speeding ticket for going 4kmh over our ridiculous inner city post covid revenue raising idiotic inconsistent speed zones. i never would have thought australia would descend to its current levels of stoopidity. fortunately i can still drive my 14 to relieve the migraine of existence in north antarctica.
