We bled all four calipers and reset the gaps on the rears. Fitted the new spreader plates to get proper reopening of the pads all around. did it all with the ignition off.

Took it for a drive to get an ice cream at the beach and the blimmin red brake light was flashing. need to press it again

Well I had the fun this last week pulling axles and replacing the CV joints...god I had fun..not. I had more grease on me then in the joints.

finally got out for a drive.
between the weather, 1000km + work trip up country on a remote job, hangovers, etc i got to rebond with "the jaffa" (google it) this weekend for 2 hours.
a mid winters day that was sunny and almost t-shirt-able.

i got to say i love this car after 30+ years and having been trapped in my audi A3 sportback for 5 days going up country for over 1000k, the audi is comfortable, sort of, but boring as all hell and the 914, well you got to drive it rather than sit in it.

fingers crossed i did not cop another speeding ticket for going 4kmh over our ridiculous inner city post covid revenue raising idiotic inconsistent speed zones.

i never would have thought australia would descend to its current levels of stoopidity.
fortunately i can still drive my 14 to relieve the migraine of existence in north antarctica.

Don't feel too alone there, here in the states we are well in the running for "most stoopid" group

where i get into trouble is i still have a mph speedo in the 14.
but its metric down here since circa 1975.
it used to be easy until the last few years.
3 common speed limits. all easily convertible in my mind to kph.
60kph = 35 mph. 80 = 50 100 = 60.
but now we have
30kph 40kph 50kph 60kph 70kph 80 kph 100 kph 110 kph.
all this has happened in late stages of covid lockdown while driving and leaving home for most was verbotten. they went around screwing up new signs everywhere. and they are still doing it. combine that with revision of definition of speeding from 10% over to 2% for urban speed limits (30-80) and 3% for highway (100-110) and you can see the problem.

i'm fairly certain some of the zones are cynically positioned to enhance revenue collection as the state finances are worse than a mess after the bumbled covid lockdowns. some of them have nothing to do with road safety given where the roads are and the condition and design of the streets. its just done to trap you. nuts. i noticed it going up country too. hadn't been where i went since 4 years ago.
lots of variable speed limits imposed on sections of open highway. you had to pay attention to the signs. and sure enough there would be a camera car positioned strategically. apparently zones were situated where there had been bushfire damage to the roads after the big fires 3 years back. except the road had been repaired.

Got it out of the garage and drove it. Nothing fell off and had no strange noises. Seems I got the wiring in the 14 and 12 pin relay board connectors right, as well as the fasteners holding the engine and transmission in.

Made it about 10min when it started raining. This car is not rain-ready. Drove home and parked it. Will try again tomorrow.

While I was not driving, installed new pedal rubber covers. Also installed new rubber rings around the instruments. They would fall out over bumps which, while amusing the first few times, got old really fast. The old rings pretty much fell apart as I pulled them off.

drove up to Greenville Sc on the invite from some other porsche enthusiasts i met at Werks Reunion Amelia Island this year,
they had my car in the coffee shop for display for the day, it’s a cool old building, awesome coffee etc . Junto Coffee in Taylor’s, SC. here are a couple pro pictures sent back to me , car was well received .

Nice drive up to the WCR, but the drive back from Tahoe was a mess. Construction and accidents everywhere. Drove through 97 degree heat on the I5 south. Almost got ran over by a semi that was trying to dodge another semi that was stopped in the slow lane. I luckily squeezed between two cars next to me, so he could have my lane. My car ran awesome and cool all the way back. I wish I could say the same for me. I downed tons of water with multiple pit stops. Note to self…. Fix AC before next event.

Yes, when I was younger. Now that I'm 62, I thought I was going to die of heat stroke. I had the top on and the windows half way down doing between 80-100 when there was no traffic or construction. The Electric AC works in my car, but creeps up to 100 amps and blows the circuit breaker. It should stay at 60 amps. We installed the same system in Keith's car and his works fine.

I'm posting while sitting in a new race car (bomber seat) chair that I just finished. I never felt the urge to build a race car chair from my Sparco but as soon as I saw this kit my thoughts went right there. While I was searching this out I ran into a chair that totally resembles an early Speedster seat. So that seat became my new goal for the race car.



Now that this is done I can start the other 2.

Just FYI. The two pieces are epoxied together. So save the old one.
A small torch where the tube and the cast piece join together
and they will come apart. I use JB Weld to join the two, just make sure the parts are clean
