As it didn't rain here in San Diego yesterday, I took the '75 out for the longest drive I've done in it so far. I went about 10 miles and the car behaved wonderfully.
The new shocks all around really made the difference. It drove nice, handled nice, didn't squeak, was quiet in the cabin.
I'm a little nervous about driving it because it's recently completed and with my luck, it would burn to the ground.
It's also a bit weird because I've been working on it for so long, I haven't gotten use to the thought of the car being finished.
I was stoked to be able to drive it and will start going a little further each time.
I didn't take any pics though, I was just happy to be out in it. I will the next time I'm out.

1. Put Ruby on the lift for 600 mile break-in oil & filter change (1st one was at 100 miles) and valve adjustment. Also chasing some nebulous small oil leaks about right pushrod tube outer oil rings......

2. Received and installed Ruby's nice Virginia "RUBY914" Antique plates......see my last Phase II Rebuild post......with pic.

@Gatornapper i saw your pictures , looking good! those darn push rod tube seals are hard to get perfect, in my new motor i finally got them sealed up with out a leak this last time when i pulled it all to re do the already leaking RMS which failed after 1000 miles- never again will i use VR RMS seal!.

I thought a little bling would be nice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I sanded most of the day yesterday and started up again this morning, still have a week minimum to go before it is ready to polish. I keep asking myself is this really what you want!? My hands are killing me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

Installed the 914Ltd sway bar reinforcement plates. It's a nice solution.

The car had the front sway bar when I go it but I am certain it was aftermarket as the two top bolts were connected as a sort of u-bolt across the inside with no reinforcements. The third was just a stud welded directly to the wheel well material (!!). Years of running attached to only the sheet metal resulting in a bit of tearing of the metal, which I patched up as best I could.

On the first plate I installed the welds were ugly but strong. The second was noticeably nicer looking. I figure I might get the hang of it after about 4 more ...

Not today but yesterday drove the 914 up to Madison County, VA to 914 genius Bates McLean's farm & shop to get some Weber tuning tips from him and was followed by RickB45 in his 944 cause he took a long twisty drive in his 914 on Friday.

My engine running great, but rings haven't seated yet I don't think.

Here is Bates in his sweet '54 Morgan that he picked up in pieces last year that now looks like new - he fabricated left cowl with louvers himself, genius that he is. RickB riding shotgun. But Rick drove it himself later - he is thinking of adding one to his stable. It was in low 40's.....

Was a great drive in twisties up & back, & we'll do it again soon. Bates is a joy to be with & is back to racing at 65.

Built a console for between the seats. Underneath hides a fuse box for amplifier and seat heaters, and usb plugs
