thanks!, i did look and search to see who had what and the ones with same part number with stoddard and Sierra Madre are on sale, Stoddard price was $320 i think yesterday on sale. I think they are coming from same place that Porsche is getting them .

Either way its a big improvement from the old ones and mine have some cracking of the back houlsing and the sparkle gone from the reflectors, so this might be a purchase coming up soon.

My car is a 1972 so a tail shifter. The actual shifter in the car is a little different from the side shift shifter that is going back in. There was one thing that was bugging the crud out of me. The big hole at the rear that is the access for the bolt that clamps over the shift rod. It shouldn’t have bothered me so much but it did. I looked on the interweb for some kind of cap, no luck. Soooooo

I cut the cap from my tail shifter body. Fits like a glove. I’ll fill the little holes

Sending out parts for restoration. Brakes to PMB; steering rack to 914 Rubber; suspension to Elephant. Should look great after the undercarriage is painted.

I put the picture above of my shifter up from my phone. I look at it on my laptop and the horror. The shifter body now looks terrible. Sooooo spent today doing something about it.

Studying the wiring diagrams so I can adapt JWEST's headlight relay kit (1973 911 and earlier) to my '72 914. I'm down to my last headlight switch, and I want to take the current load off the switch and the latching relay. So far, this looks like a pretty easy do...

Ok never have seen one of those before


I could not find anything factory so I made one. I do not even know if there is a OEM cap. I used my tail shifter body that does not have a hole and made that.

OK, I finished the install yesterday.

Bad news: I forgot to take pictures (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Good news: It's a very nice kit, and it was pretty easy to adapt it to my '72 914 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

(NOTE: some 1972 and earlier 914s have a "hot +" screw-type junction block behind the fuse panel--if your car is newer, you'll have to find a different "hot +" source).

Installation details follow, just in case anyone else wants to try this (all the usual warnings and disclaimers apply):

- Always disconnect battery BEFORE starting work.

- Insulate all exposed parts of the terminals with heat-shrink tubing, particularly the female terminals that were pulled from the fuse panel.

- Use 1/4" female push-on terminals on the kit's blue and green wires; they replace the car's white and yellow wires (respectively) at the fuse panel.

(NOTE: On my '1972 car, the white and yellow wires are at fuses #2 and #4 on the "input" side--check the appropriate wiring diagram(s) to make sure what's right for your car).

- Put 1/4" male push-on terminals on the relay kit's white and yellow wires; connect them to the car's white and yellow wires that were pulled from the fuse panel in step 2. (FWIW, on my car these wires come from the "latching relay," listed as #27, "combination relay" in Haynes manual, Figure 9.73).

- Install a ring terminal on the relay kit's red wire, then add it to the "hot" screw-type junction behind the fuse box. (NOTE: I didn't add an in-line fuse between the junction block and the relay because I have the wires between the battery and junction fused at the battery.)

- Put a ring terminal on the kit's brown wire and add to an existing ground.

PS. The JWest Engineering 914 foglight-flasher relay works really well too!

PPS. Always disconnect battery BEFORE starting work.

Are you happy with the Mittelmotor muffler? Right now I have a steel Bursch muffler. I don't like the sound too much of the Bursch. I watched your video and as far as I can say the sound of the Mittelmotor is deeper. Is it very loud at full speed?

My good buddy Alan came over and we worked on my 6 and my 928. Even though I never had an issue with the battery, it was 8 years old and if I am going to Route 66 in it I do not want to worry that it may take a crap. The front top seal pulled out in an area on the windshield when I took the top off so cleaned it up really good and used some 3/M weather strip adessive to hold it in place. Working with the linkage a little and well that is it so far. Battery for 928 $300. Picture showing the no hell hole on the 928.

It looks like you could rotate the battery 180 degrees. Looks like the battery cables would fit fine.
