Finished up replacing the alternator. Battery light goes off right away, DVOM reads 13.4 to 13.5 at the battery at idle.

Not the easiest job as the car was on ramps—but doable. The key thing was removing the left front piece of cooling tin:
Attached Image

I think it’s referred to as “cover plate for engine, front driver side). In addition to the fasteners visible in the engine compartment, there are a couple of cheese-head screws that have to be removed from underneath (note the holes in the tin at the right side of the photo). This cover plate is lifted up and out from inside the engine compartment.

With that piece out of the way, the alternator is removed and replaced from underneath, in front of the engine bar. For the install, the hex head bolt went in from the front; the square “toothed” nut took a couple tries, but I was finally able to get in place over the top of the alternator. Fitted the lower part of the alternator housing into the mounting bracket, then the plastic ring goes on the front of the alternator. The alternator’s front cover plate goes on from underneath, and the long D-headed bolt goes in from the front.

Having that front cover plate off made fitting and tensioning the belt a lot easier too.

Hope this helps!

Took my 914 to Cars & Coffee on Saturday 19th. in Ann Arbor MI Zingerman's Deli. UM hangout. then to PCA Rennstatt Auto-Motion gathering with our PCA Rally Sport guys.
Then Sunday washed and put away for winter.
Had a great time with lots of Hi Fives. Every one likes (14's (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Close enough to put primer on. After that dries I will do a test fit, the 134th I think. God I hope it fits right, on two different angles it goes through that hole. Then I had to make sure it would move forward enough to tighten the allen bolt on the column cover. too bad I can't hide it but it is front and center.

Right on Paul, you have no idea how many times I've walked the diffuser back out to the car. Speaking of the diffuser here's the last picture of it.

It's fitting just good enough to see where it's fitting badly.

Put replacement sun visors and hardware on my 1975 1.8. Went from baggy sun visors that were starting to shower me with brown snowflakes to decent looking and functional sun visors. I bought these in March 2020. I think that's a pretty reasonable time from purchase to installation (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

On the same car installed one of Ben's fire extinguisher mounts and a 5lb purple K fire extinguisher. Goes without saying that I hope that is the most useless thing I've ever done.

Up next is the new dash. Also bought that in 2020.....

Well, I had to do some alterations. The lower right side reveal of the console cover was a gap. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Damned angles. So I goofed. But there is a fix, meet the bump. Still fabricating but it should have a nice reveal after.

Wife would no longer ride in my 914 due to the "nasty sun visors". The guys from Turkey made quick work of that issue and great quality too

I got the @^$#%$#@ gas strut kit off the rear of the factory six and put the torsion bars back on it.

Attached Image

The paint work on the side wall was just to cover the bare metal of the hinge pivot point. It will get repainted when the bodywork is done on the car.

I spent a lot of time filling in the holes in the hinges so they look like they have never been drilled out.
