Drove it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
While R&R-ing the alternator last week, a 90-year-old neighbor would stop by for a little while each day to offer encouragement—though he finally admitted he was angling for a ride. Took him up on it yesterday. We drove through his old stomping grounds, past his school, family farm, church, etc. Rode around with him for an hour. He really seemed to enjoy it. Now he wants a pic of him sitting in the car...and another ride too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Finally got some time to finish my transmission reinstallation after replacing the flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, flywheel spacer insert, pilot bushing and resealing the transmission (which included cleaning off all the old Tecytl, and putting the case in a Cuda hot aqueous parts washer and then thoroughly washing off the parts washer solution and drying the case). Had the ol 74 running Tuesday afternoon. I still have a number of things to do on the ol 914. Slowly but surely things are coming together.

Took it to the coolest car show in my area. It’s called the Pumpkin Run and it had over 2000 cars in attendance. Everything is represented, from hot rods, 4x4s, exotics, classics, race cars, military vehicles, 18 wheelers, vintage machinery, and even a steam powered tractor the size of a locomotive running around.

Aside from road grime and oil on the case there is the old Tecytl coating on it as well. I had to basically chisel it off with a flat head screwdriver and then I put the entire empty case in a CUDA parts washer I have access too when I did a reseal on my transaxle. Dry ice cleaning that I've seen online looks amazing. Too bad the equipment for it is expensive as sin or I'd love to do it myself.
