I pulled the fuel tank and relocated the dead mouse and dirt which were in there. Metal all looks solid in there. I think next for it is the por15 tank kit and some SS fuel lines.

Today I removed the seats, backpad, sound pad, seat brackets, armrest, deposit box, whatever was left of the carpet, seatbelts, etc. Then used the shopvac to clean up the floor. Found a couple of rusty bits on the driver's side floor. Nothing too crazy yet. Next will be to heatgun/putty knife the floor to remove the sound deadening goop.
FedEx also showed up today with the long/sill repair parts I ordered from RD a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I get the gasket for my dirtbike engine this week, I'll put that back together to free up garage and bench space, then, drop the engine and trans, tires/wheels and according to Joe, the suspension, etc. Then, rotisserie that biyatch! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) grindy grindy weldy weldy... edit: also, it looks like someone jacked the car up by putting a floor jack under the driver's seat area. Behind the bracing that locks the front of the seat tilt. That area where the large round plug comes out is all pushed upward. |

Over the weekend I put a flipped H-gear into my tranny. Glad, I opened it up again to do that... I found my pinion shaft bearing was toast. All better now.
Today, I continued welding in the engman kit, and I pulled the crusty old tie rods off the steering rack. I've got my 1 year old daughter with me during the week... when she goes down for a nap... I go down to the garage and play. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) |

Not a whole lot today, but any forward progress is better than nothing.
Installed new rubber seals in the engine compartment, then moved to the interior. Removed the seats and carpet (found a little over a dollar in loose change down there) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) Vacuumed and wiped-down the interior side of the firewall, then applied some rubber under-coating on it (for sound deadening) and installed a new rubber seal at the driver side door opening. Question: Whats with the little electrical box and wires under the passenger seat? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ... found a few of the terminal connections corroded away and wires are dangling (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |

Seat belt interlock relay IIRC. doesn't let the car start unless you have your seat belt safely fastened and all hands and arms are safely inside the vehicle at all times. Most have been bi-passed over the years.

Most have been bi-passed over the years. I believe mine is bypassed then - it's always started without clicking the seat belts since I've owned it. I'll just insulate the ends of the loose wiring. Thanks Ethan. |

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars. i'll start, about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today? yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup. what did you do to your 914 today? Today I got my new set of Goodyear slicks mounted on my track wheels. The Fronts are 245/40-17 & Rears are 315/35-17. I can hardly wait for the next track day! Terry |

I washed it, applied several stickers to the windows, including a 914World sticker, drove really fast downtown and put the car in the convention center in the SCCA booth at the Memphis International Car Show taking place this weekend. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
