QUOTE (bperry @ Dec 5 2005, 07:17 PM)
Ok, So when I was a kid back around '74/'75 or so, I took a family
weekend trip with my parents from Nashville, Tn and we went up to the
"Land between the Lakes" area (Lake Barkley). For those
not aware, its an area in the western part of Ky just north of TN
and just south of Illinois.

Anyway, when we got there and parked in a wooded picnic area,
we saw a hot pink kind of fuschia 914. I remember it being so bright
it almost hurt your eyes to look at. My mother kind of made fun
of it saying all it needed was some white polka-dots.
I remember being fascinated by the color. I'd never seen a car
(any car) that color before. It was like the color of a hot lipstick.

It definitely wasn't a 75 or 76 as it didn't have the big rubber bumbers.
My dad had a 71 and it seemed to look fairly similar- but I wasn't very
familiar with the car and it was so long ago I can't remember much more. It did have the black side vinyl panels unlike my dads which
had painted sail panels.

I do remember it being the color closer to the small one of
the 944 posted by SirAndy.

Not sure if its the same car or not, but the area of the country
is similar.

Has the car lived all its life in the Kentucky area?

--- bill

That is an awesome story! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/aktion035.gif) Now! dig out the family vacation photos and see if mom caught it in the back ground. That would be outragous! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/pray.gif)

Heh. It was real fun. Pleasure to meet rick. He's someone good to talk to if you think you have something but you think it won't work. Rick, I enjoyed you coming down and taking to me....It was a pleasure meeting you and I am glad you were able to come down. Something is in the works, but i'll keep it like that till I get things together.

Anyway, what I know from the pink car is not much. Someone from around Eastern KY brought this pink 914 into a church to donate. The church took the car to Premiere Autosales and that's where I come in. I had a wreck and the cheapest local car for sale was $800...I went online and (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) a car for $200....

I offered 400 and won. Road trip with my dad's Land Rover Discovery and we got the car...

funny thing...Rick and I were getting ready to go, and he said that he saw a giant razor blade in somebody's front yard....The only reply I could come up with was "only in KY" Did you get that picture rick?

b

We had a great time! Hey I got the picture!

The razor blade is nothing. I was driving through Bullit County (south of Louiseville Ky.) and a guy had an entire automobile mounted on concrete blocks, right in the front yard. Damndest thing I've ever seen. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

The boys had a great time! My son had about 10 people over tonight to check out the pictures and video they took at the show.

This is my severely faded 74 in Bahia Red, before I buffed it out...this picture was taken in what would have been its final resting place if it had not been brought to my attention by Trekkor. This is 30 year old paint, 30 years of California sunshine...not so great for your paint. It resembled pink, but not in areas where the sun didn't shine.

This is a pic of my code 98 "maybe it was pink" car. The pic is of the sail panel. I don't know if you can really see the color, but I swear it was some kind of pink. Mind you, this is not faded because it was covered by the sail panel vinyl until about a year ago. I found the same color under the carpet and on the firewall. The car was repainted some kind of metallic red. But the hidden areas are still factory color.

Jason, Shoot some more photos of hidden areas on your car. I'd like to do some comparison shots of the one I have here. We may have twins! Maybe like the Barbie twins! What year is your car? What motor size?

Thats the VIN on my old car. My profile is out of date. Here are a few more pics.... I can try to get more. Alot of the car was cut in whenever it was painted, trunks etc. But I may be able to get a good sample somewhere else.

The ID plate. You can see the "pink" where the door seal would be.
(IMG:http://members.cox.net/jasons7/PICT0210_redux.jpg)

The VIN decal. It may be missing a number on the end. Its titled a 73, VIN dated 72.
