At the end of June 1970 Claude Ballot-Léna ran the car in La Ronde Cévenole in France. He did not finish due to an accident (probably what prompted the color change).

I suspect the colour change was to bring the car in line with Sonauto's new livery of yellow with green, but I may be wrong. Their RS rally car was in the same colours (it looks blue in this photo, but is green in real life). |

Whats the story on the red tape around the windshield at Le Mans? Was it used as a graphic? leaking seal? hold the glass in at high speed? All of the above?

If I read the history correctly, it was used by the pit crews to identify the car coming into the pits. That's the same reason they painted the bumpers on some GTs half body color and half black. |

Clay,
The story that I got from the prior ownership is that; in the event of windshield breakage/ windshield blowout on the high speed section of the track...pit stop replacement was hastened by the use of high-speed German duct tape ! There were a few extra red rolls that came along with our car purchase, cool spares. And yes Betty can get up close and personal with #40 anytime we bring it out to events! Marty |

Was there any windshield retaining tabs ever installed like most of the race cars ran?
I wonder if they forgot to install them and the tape got them through tech inspection? |

Front brakes are from 908 Let me add my congratulations to the ownership transition. Now that is an interesting caliper. Very similar pin to that on the "908" caliper that I had, and Eric @PMB duplicated many years ago. This U-pin is backwards to the one I had and has holes for the retaining pins. I would like to see the other side of the caliper. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=85031 |
