Preparing to install new windshield. Replaced dash vinyl and installed lower seal.
Body metal had a flat rubber seal between glass and frame...Are those available or what is procedure for that part of the job.
Yes I have new plastic clips and trim.
As someone's signature says "open wallet ...watch $$ fly away !"

Hi Terry the dash to windshield bead is available aftermarket now, the factory one discontinued. The original factory one had clamping metal in it the last of the factory ones did not. Our repro is excellent (if I do say so myself) but has to be glued in with weatherstrip adhesive and of course before the windshield is installed!

Terry, I bought a couple dash-to-windshield beads from Stoddard a year or 2 ago. Price each was either $108 or $128, I forget which. The couple of aftermarket offerings I've seen have all been too wide, which doesn't look right to me (and require trimming around the defrost vents). Stoddard's appears to be the same width as OEM, though I haven't measured to confirm. No metal to rust; design appears to be good without gluing, so should be easily saved if/when you need a new windshield in the future. As you can tell from the pix, I haven't installed yet (waiting on the silver car), so this is all I know.

George, is the seal below the same design as the late factory one? Is yours similar? Better? Correct width? Cost? Thanks in advance!

(I'll snap a close-up photo, unwrapped from the plastic, later - camera ran out of juice and is charging.)

Confusing ....

Are you talking about what holds the windshield to the frame or just the lower dash trim (goes between dash and glass ... which you said you already have installed).

If the first, it's butyl tape ... go to CarQuest ... they have 15' rolls of it .... get 3/16" or 1/4".

The last of the stoddards were actually aftermarket made in Germany but with no metal in it. The configuration was correct yes. Aftermarket have a bit more material actually to cover the dash vinyl a bit better. They also lack the metal so both are a glue in.

Now that that is cleared up, the 3/16 works a little better as it doesn't raise up on the trim when snapped into place.

I've used the 1/4", but stretch it a bit to thin it out.

Put your clips in the frame first. Then put the tape around. This way you can clear the clips if you ever want to remove the trim. If you use butyl in a tube , it usually gets everywhere and locks the trim down (you'll bend the crap out of it trying to get it off).

Also, the butyl tape kit comes with a couple of rubber spacers that you put in the bottom channel to space the windshield up from the cowling. Leave them in for about 24 hours so the glass won't slide down and let the butyl take a set. Then snap the trim in place.

Definitely buytl tape! It gives a very clean install, versus all the messy oozing from uneven application of windshield adhesive goop out of a caulking gun.
