This is the only number I could find on the case:

VC (WV logo in some kind of recycle logo)
G108287

It's a 2.0L that had D-Jet on it. The heads are 914 2.0L heads.

I got the engine with the car (spare engine). The PO claimed he took it of from a 914.
Anyone recognizes this?

I think that the G cases are Bus cases.

It will work fine in a 914, but the oil temp sender location is different.

neither of these links have it, but that is either a replacement or exchange case.

Volkswagen Canada. They had a rebuilding facility there. The product quality was questionable. As for the "oil temp sender" location difference, there IS no such issue. Porsche added one in the plate on the bottom of the case, VW didn't use one. The hole, as well as a plate to cover it, is still there. There are a number of differences in the cases, all dependent on the year and the original use for a particular unit, but they're essentially all the same, 1969 through 1979. T4s and busses used a different oil filler and dipstick setup than Porsche used, and carbureted engines had a mounting point for the fuel pump machined into a boss on the case.

We're getting somewhere!

So the logo means that this is a recycled/replacement case, probably VW Canada. It seems to be pretty new, all clean and shinny. No leaks at all

I'm rebuilding it since the DAPO broke one head, probably when he packed the engine for me. Then he drained the oil and let it stay with the sump open so all the dust could get in.

There isn't too much dirt inside the open sump but who knows?

Should I completely split the case to clean it or can I rinse it somehow without taking everything apart? Again, the case is perfectly sealed now.

If your there you might as well .... who knows who had there greasy mits inside that case. Might be worth looking at from the inside before investing time or even parts putting the jugs and heads back on.

I once bought a crew cab with a VW recycled ( arrows in a circle ) it was the quietest engine I,ve ever seen. I also aquired a similar engine from an auction at PAP and it had new heads on it. The heads has a part # printed on them. I used the case to build a 2056.

It has all the 914 characteristics like heads, oil dip stick, etc.
It's just a strange SN.
