My Chilton's (or whatever book it is) states .394" as the minimum thickness for the front rotors. Is that the correct value? Both sets I have (used) are measuring at roughly .345".

Think I just answered my own question... I found a stamp on them on the "hat" saying minimum of .374".

You are asking about Front rotors, correct?
0.394 & 0.374 are both correct but different specs. They can be machined to 0.394 they can be worn down to 0.374 Factory specs (mm): (I did the mm to in conversions) Thickness New: 11mm +0.05mm -0.15mm (0.4331in +0.002in -.006in) Min. Thickness after machining 10.0mm (0.394in) Wear Limit 9.5mm (0.374in) Jim |

These are from a Peter R.D. Russek VW/Porsche 914/4 Repair Guide, I found on-line a couple years ago. It is a nice little manual to have, little as in it fit in the glove box and can be with your 914 at all times. All the info looks like it came from Porsche. Thickness New: 9.5mm (0.374in) Min. Thickness after machining 8.9mm (0.350in) Variation in thickness 0.2mm(0.008in) No wear limit is listed in this manual Jim |
