Are these two parts interchangeable?
Part No. 28 in this diagram: and part No. 24 in this diagram: It's easy to say "no" as they are different part numbers. However they are very close. Here's a picture of part 24 (930-424-241-00): I need part 28 (914-424-241-02). If anybody could verify the distance from the center of the screw to the flush end I would very much appreciate it. It's about 1 7/8" on part 24. Thanks |

That's an interesting question (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
What's the OD of the front shit rod where part (24) attaches? ... same as the OD on the rear shift rod? (I don't have either handy at the moment). I think part (29) looks a littler 'beefier' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

No, the side-shift rear cup is taller than the shifter cup.

While they seem to be interchangeable, and both attach to the rod identically, using the tailshift piece at the console of a sideshift trans doesn't work out too well.
The ball cup bushing hangs out of the end, jams, and breaks quickly. Somewhere around here I have a tailshift piece which I extended using a 12pt. socket at the race track, after discovering (the hard way) that I had used the wrong piece when assembling the car. Fortunately I had a spare bushing in my parts box as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) |

Probably got you through the day. I had a hunch the one part was longer. Other than length, the tail shift piece does look like it would work. It only needs another 1/4" so it's easy to confuse the two. Thanks for clarifying, guys. |

@vsg914 = pm me about that shift rod head please!
@bugsy0 =im in the same situation, did a side shift conversion and all parts were there minus shift-rod head (part 28) since i have (part 24, diagram 2) from swap, tried it to no avail. used a 11/16 socket and tried that, but ball cup bushing kept slipping out. called local Porsche dealer (Brumos) and i was told that part is discontinued. and the woes continue... I think these parts are very easily confused as they only differ by about 1/4" in length and both work in either application (for a desperate, late night mechanic in denial).

I remember Gint's car (the Six) going on a drive with the Roadglue folks. The gear shift lever suddenly wouldn't shift. Mueller was riding with Alex, who was the car's owner at the time. The coupler under the lever was the wrong type, so Mueller kludged up a fix to get the car home.
So yeah, it doesn't work that well the other way either. --DD |
