the 'buying' of the engine for less than $5k is not the problem. I've bought a 2.7 for $3500 and a 3.2 for $4000. It's the work needed to the car and other misc stuff you need that will double (at least) that number:

IMO, the 3.2 engine with it's stock EFI is the PERFECT fit for a 914. Starts up right away, all the time, has plenty of torque and hp - not too much, not too little. I have been through the following "6's" in our cars: 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0. Huey now has a stock 3.2 and Papa Smurf has a 3.4 full twin plug, high compression race engine. So...do the math. Yes, we could own a vacation home in the Caribbean (and probably one in Vail) for what we've spent on 'upgrading' our cars... But hey, they're going up in value...right?? |
