Luggage Space, A Little Help Options

Hi all. First post. I recently purchased a 72 1.7 in Oregon and I am driving it to Los Angeles in 2 weeks. I reside in Boston and this is my first 914. My question involves the size of the two luggage compartments. I need to be sure of the size so I don't find myself with luggage on my lap because I used too large cases!

If anyone has the dimensions of the compartments (height being important with the targa stowed) it would be helpful. Any other tips would be great as well. I am a long time Porsche owner (356 & 911) and am familiar with basics like valve adjustments, fuel lines, and electrical cleanliness. Any 914 specific items you would recommend that should be checked would be great.

Lou, I would use soft luggage,because two suitcases with wheels and handles won't fit in any of the trunks. I bowed the front hood trying to close it thinking it was close to closing, also a small six pack cooler is all you can fit if your bringing a extra person along on the trip. dont forget spare parts for brake downs. If you remove the spare tire cover (if you have one) you will see a lot of space to fold and roll socks, underwear, tee shirts and personal items in a garbage bag around the spare tire and even more under the spare tire. A garment bag on top of the spare tire cover done!

Your rear trunk with the top in it will only hold the spare parts you want to take because they are flat. Your choice to drive with top off will limit your rear trunk space.

Oh! And a tape measure is your friend. Never needed one myself.

Are you going to carry a passenger? When I moved from Portland to the Bay Area I was able to fit 3 bags in the passenger foot well and another on the seat. And you probably won’t be taking the roof off until you’re out of Oregon…
