Work continues on the SBC V8 914... Trying to take the Intake Manifold off the TBI SBC... Which has TORX bit (40) fasteners everywhere!! 4 bolts are stripped!!

What is the best way to remove these? (they are intake bolts so access to them isn't good)

Do they make "easy outs" for this size bolt?

Any help would be appreciated...

if you have access to a welder put a nut on top of it and fill the center with weld

If there's direct access, choose a drill bit large enough to remove the bolt head. After removing the intake manifold, should be fairly straightforward to unscrew the now tension-free threaded shank.

Drop the drivetrain for better access.

Also for future fasteners, make sure you have exactly the right TORX bit. It's easy to pick one too small and that makes the likelyhood of stripping go up dramatically.

A left hand twist drill bit works sometimes when drilling them for an easy out bit.

I have always wondered if the body panel pull kits that weld on the tabs would work well enough to weld one of those tabs on a troublesome fastener and back it out.

Those are just light duty spot welders.

Basic question. Why use Torx-head fasteners in the first place? Install space considerations? Normal external hex not good enough? Attempt to add a touch of M-B to the vehicle mechanicals? MHO, use a large grip surface on a threaded fastener for best R&R success.

I didn't put these on the engine. I got the engine used and they are what is on it... Don't worry once they are gone I will use something else for sure!!

Torx are not my friend...
