I am wondering if anybody knows if the early 914 has a turn signal relay. The only reason I ask is because when I use the right turn signal and press on the brake I get both flashers flashing but when I use the left turn signal and press the brake it works fine. After reading many post people suggested cleaning the ground (done) and replace the turn signal relay. Here is a pic of my fuse box/ relays. It doesn't look like any of the others I have seen people post. Since this is a 1970 914 I was wondering if it was located somewhere else or if they didn't use them and I need to keep researching.

The flasher relay is square with 4 wires to it.
It is not attached to the fuse panel but under the dash near by.

Can I ask you how the square silver relay on the far right is attached to relay board. Apparently mines is not attached in anyway, is there like a clip on the top of the relay that clips to the board or something ??

Thanks.

Just be aware that for everything to function properly you will need a 914 specific item. The generic ones will plug in and work the flashers/hazards ok but the issue is the flashing warning light for the handbrake: they're not designed to cope with it and activating it just confuses them with all sorts of weird results.

Rumour has it that 911s of a similar vintage had the same feature, so maybe there's another source.

porsche913b_sp I will send a pic of the bottom when I get home from work. I purchased something but after reading a number of threads I am getting the feeling that I purchased the wrong item. I will also let you know when I get home from work.

If you can take a pic of the part number of that relay it would be appreciated as well for my reference.

Thank you

Sorry for the delay in getting the pics and details. I would have to say that I didn't think this was going to be such a challenge. I went searching for the replacement and found they have the relay on amazon with amazon prime. So I ordered the part and it came the next day. Unfortunately that is where my troubles came. The part was manufactured by URO and when I put it in the car it didn't work at all. When I was pulling it back out the part broke in my hands. So what ever you do, don't by URO parts. I then tracked down another manufacture from a local parts house. This time is was made in Germany. I plugged it in and worked like a charm and all my problems are solved. Here are the pics of each product.

But URO has 10 scientist on staff, lots of fancy testing equipment and a periodic chart of elements hanging on the wall. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

I am trying to replace my turn signal relay. I have the fuse panel dropped and I don't see it. Does anyone have a picture of it in place? What color wires go to it?

Here is a picture of my fuse panel dropped. I was thinking the flasher relay was this silver square relay mounted on the end of the back of the fuse panel. Attached Image

Found it. Hard to wiggle out of its connector, but the new one went in easily. Turn signals are working again.

Large and small silver (metal) at the right end is the headlight relay. The larger version came from the VW Type 3. Small one was from the Beetle.

I got in the car today delighted that everything is working well, and my parking break now causes both turn signal indicators to light on the dash. There is also a strange buzzing sound coming from the dash with the parking brake engaged. Is this related to the new turn signal relay? When I pulled the old relay, the four tabs were considerably splayed. The new relay had nice straight tabs and seemed to install just fine. The turn signals work normally. What is going on here?

RIch Bontempi at High Performance House in Redwood City has a bunch of these relays. They run about $50 each.

It sounds like your flasher is pulling in the 4 th terminal in when the e brakeis up.

Do the tach turnsignal indicators flash or stay gently lit with ebrake pulled?
