Okay, so today, I was working on getting the shifter and new linkage adjusted.
Since I wasn't converting to any other trans (cable-shift, etc), I decided to change out the tail-shift for a side-shift. To do this, I went with the Tangerine Racing complete shift linkage kit, the firewall bushing, and the precision adjuster and threw in the JWest Renn-shifter for the heck of it (and to get the short-shift feature). When I shift the trans console by hand, I can find the reverse - 1st plane here: and I can find what I think is the 2nd-3rd plane about 7mm down: And then at about 13-14mm (the measurement I get with the level pulled all the way out), I would think would be the 4th - 5th plane but I can't shift the trans into 4th or 5th as I would expect. I have tried to split the difference between the R-1 plane and the 2-3 plane thinking that the 2-3 plane might actually be the 4-5 plane but that didn't work. This is an unfamiliar trans that I pulled out of a parts car I purchased (haven't had the time to go through it and it was recommended that I put it in and run it anyway to see what it needed). Am I missing something? I don't remember pulling the console out of it (as if I had not gotten it back in right and somehow had a shift rod out of alignment). Any thoughts? I've been trying to make sure that I have the trans in neutral (in between 2-3) and then adjust the shift rod in the console to the left to get it all lined up but when I do I can't find 4-5 with the shifter so I thought I'd try to find it at the console first.....but no luck yet. I have read a number of the "how to adjust your shifter" threads. |

I have read a number of the "how to adjust your shifter" threads. Looks to be right to me ,I don't have that conversion but built my own, talked to Chris and he didn't sell that part (double bush console ) on its own as I had the rest already done uni joints front and rear. I have very positive shifting but still not right I put it down to a machined flywheel ?and the throw out arm not working as it should,I plan to pull the gearbox and shim the ball cup bush or add a washer to the the pivot ball. My clutch pressure plate is new as is my clutch disk,if that fails to sort it I have a bad trans (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ,OP claims he had no issues with it ??????. Maybe not be your issue but just saying, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) . |

You're in the right general location for 4-5. See if you can select them at the console with the u-joint disconnected from the short shaft.
If not, it's probably an alignment issue with the forks inside the box. |

Chris,
Your "If not, it's probably an alignment issue with the forks inside the box" is what has me concerned and where I was headed. I was trying to find all of the gears via the console before spending time trying to adjust the linkage. I suppose this would mean removing the console, re-aligning the shift rods, and then re-installing the console. Guess I need to research how to re-align the shift rods without going into the trans. |

Drained the trans, pulled the console, checked the alignment of the forks (good), replaced the o-ring, buttoned it back up and went back to the linkage and started over....
Will work on the linkage adjustment more tomorrow evening. |

while the console was out you should have tried moving the 4-5 fork into both gear positions with a big ass screwdriver.
