I was wondering what fuel pump folks are using and like for a Carb conversion. Engine is a 2.0 upgraded to 2.3 with two Weber 44 IDF carbs.

Tangerine sells everything you need (see fuel pumps at bottom left): http://www.tangerineracing.com/stainlessfuellines.htm I've been using the pump from Tangerine for 3 years now without problem. No pressure regulator needed and is quiet enough that I don't hear it with the engine running. |

Low pressure Carter pump mounted on front crossmember, not too loud, fairly priced and runs well.
I seem to remember the same pump comes from CB performance also. |

CB Performance has a rotary low pressure pump with filter, that's what i ran on my 2056. http://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/3193.htm (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.cbperformance.com-179-1511207757.1.jpg) Friends don't let friends use facet pumps ... You can buy a PMO fuel pressure regulator and run your existing FI fuel pump.

Sir Andy's pump as illustrated is the one I have been running on my 3.0-6 without an issue and the pressure regulator and gauge shows consistent pressure at 2.5-3.

Running that same Carter pump from CB Performance on mine as well. Constant correct pressure. I would recommend removing the supplied filter and either relocating it, or replacing the clamps at a minimum. I've seen a couple of them leak at those fittings fresh out of the packaging.

And i forgot, whatever you do, please don't hack into your wiring harness!
You can mount and power the low pressure pump in the same spot as the FI pump and even use the same wires, fuses and relays without ever cutting anything. http://www.914world.com/specs/SirAndyCarbFuelPumpRelay.php (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |

Andy did you run @ full pump pressure or run a regulator ,I found my Zeniths ran better @ a lower pressure than pump supplied same with the carbs on my speedster (dcnfva Weber) seemed anything over 3psi was too much for the float needle and seats on both types of carbs. IMO the use of a regulator and gauge is your best friend. I go on but the use of quality (efi rated) fuel hose and correct fuel line clamps is a step ahead from a safety aspect. |

Stock a 914 is like civilized but with big 4 its obnoxious In a good way . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) |

I really need to do a write-up on this. PO put a Facet on the engine tins and the noise was irritating. I had it running once to warm it up, and it died, leaving the pump to drain the battery. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (Car would die sometimes as well.)
When I had the tank out to get to the wiper linkage, and decided to install the CB pump. I mounted the pump about where the 75-76 location is, and mounted the filter to the steering rack. For power, I installed one of these: http://www.revolutionelectronics.com/_Medi...in-2_med-2.jpeg Wired into the fuse panel, and attached to the Tach, all the wiring is short and up front. When you key up, the pump runs for 3 seconds to prime, then waits for a tach signal. If you crash your car, the pump stops running so you don't get drenched in fuel. So far, so good. Happy to get rid of that clicking! |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) I also run this setup but I purchased mine form Tangerine Racing. Also bought the SS fuel line for Carbs. Used the remaining grommet holes to run the wiring thru the tunnel. Bought a 2 wire multi stranded and flat jacketed wire from West Marine. Mounted the pump/filter combo under the gravel pan. It's tight but it works. Happy to see the pump outside of the car and the pressure line now in SS tube. As insurance I installed on the top of the engine a fuel regulator. I actually use a 2.5lb pressure with 40IDFs on a 2.1L engine. Runs great. |

You could also do this by wiring a simple relay to the oil pressure switch, but it has no pre-run. you could get around this with dash mounted momentary switch to prime the pump. $5 plus some wire. Or you could use a fuel pump relay from a VW k-jetronic, uses the tach signal and has a simple 555 timer for pre-run. $27 plus some wire. you might be able to find one in a scrapyard. http://www.busdepot.com/321906059C |
